Affordable 15x8 FC track/autocross wheels available now!
 

I'm not affiliated, but I've heard of people looking for some affordable 15x8's for the FC before, and I was among them. Well our prayers have been answered. Rota has just made a batch of Slipstreams in a 15x8, 5x114.3 bolt pattern, 40mm offset and they're available right now. In other words they'll fit with a thin spacer in the front. Here's the best part, they're $550 shipped anywhere in the US. These are limited production, so they won't last forever, but more will be made at a later date most likely. I've ordered mine already.

I was excited, so I posted it everywhere where an FC track enthusiast might see it. I should have my wheels by the end of next week.

I've heard that they're under 15lbs, something like 14.5lbs, but I don't know for sure.

I have Rota track-r 15x7 on my racecar and they are great

mine weigh 13lbs and the slipstream model should be a bit lighter, although the difference in size should offset it

..although you guys should note that the standard 15x7 examples of these wheels, as well as most other rotas are a crapload cheeper than $550/ set...normally well under $100/ wheel

Goodwin Racing sells the Slipstream 15x7.5's and they list them at 13.3lbs.

The reason these are more expenses is that they're a custom size. They're about the only 15x8 that'll fit well for a decent price. There's circle track wheels, but they stick out much farther.

Well I drove down to the US today and picked them up. After duty and taxes they came in at just under $800 Canadian. They came in packages of two, each in its own box, and each package weighs 30lbs, so the wheels are about 14lbs or so. Sorry I don't have an accurate scale to measure them on, so that's about as close as it's going to get.

Just a quick update. I test fitted a wheel on the front (4 pot brakes) and with a 7/16" spacer (offset ~ 29mm) they fit with lots of room to spare around the brakes (would probably clear the brakes with no spacer if that was possible). The shorter of the ARP studs (100-7708) are just barely long enough. I got about 7 turns out of them. I'm getting some of the longer ARP studs (100-7713), which are another 3/4" longer to better secure them, to make the stud actually stick out of the nut to have it look right for some peace of mind. The shorter studs stick out a bunch farther in the rear, so there's no problem there, and they'll probably be about even with the longer ones in front.

I've got some 225/50/15 Hankook Z211 C30 compound race tires on them. Got the tires for $99/ea on closeout a few months ago (AIM Tire), finally got around to mounting them right before the test fit. They fit very nicely on the wheels with very straight sidewalls, can't wait to try them out on track.

Update: I was at the track this weekend for an open track day on Friday followed by a 2 day driving school Saturday and Sunday. On Friday morning, after doing a couple sessions I was re-torquing my wheels and noticed that one didn't seem to be tightening after several turns of approximately constant torque. I looked at the wheel hub and noticed a crack through the lug seat and all the way down the hole. It turns out that they've machined the hub face to allow them to mark the wheel with it's size, offset, etc, but they've chosen to do it VERY close to BOTH sides of not one, but two of the lug holes, leaving them severely weakened. The other wheels were like this too. Needless to say I was very disappointed, but I put my street tires back on and ran the remainder of the weekend with no further issues.

I wouldn't really reccomend these any more due to this issue.

I think when it comes to wheels, you get what you paid for, and i seriously think that the enkei's arent bad track wheels/daily wheels and they are not "break the bank" expensive. they are light and proven to be strong. I am pretty sure if there is enough interest one of our guys (rishie?) can set up a group buy (i think enkei dont normally make 15x8 but im sure they can if there is enough orders)

im trying to budget some wheels myself, but not for my rx7, cant afford to auto x that thing.
