4 point SPARCO harness
 

I was looking into getting a 4 point and was wondering if anyone has one. (sparco specifically) I was wondering if they were much of an issue to hook up. If you could include pics of the hook up and such that would be great.

Mounting does not consist of much more than some safe and calculated drilling. Just make ABSOLUTELY sure that you arent drilling through anything important, and also that the shoulder harnesses are mounted at the correct/safe angle.

i have one, it's mounted dangerously :) i used the holes where the carpet bolts down about half way into the back. I just drilled em out and tapped them for the eye bolts. a harness bar would be a good idea :)

Yeah Twilight you need to get a harness bar. With the way you have them mounted your 4 point is probably less safe than the regular belt. Race harnesses need to be attached so that they won't compress your spine when the belts get tensioned. That means the the rear anchor point need to be at about shoulder height. I hope you have a strong back.

I’ve been looking around and I see a lot of people bolt straight down behind the seat and ii figure that that is all that I can do scene mine is a vert. And I didn’t think that it could compress your spine as long as where the straps come through the seat is a little higher than you shoulder. I saw this diagram and it showed that it should be either 180 or 45-90 degrees out of the seat.

Don't bolt the shoulder straps down to the floor behind the seat:

TonyB, if you look at the link mahjik posted it, like the third post says NASA rules require a 20 degree angle or less. Now i'm a bit over that but not too much :) also for all the bitching people do, i have seen this(my) exact setup in a wrecked car, the guy and passenger walked away a-ok. but yeah a harness bar is in the works for piece of mind.

so on an 8 ytou could use the points for the kids seat restraint for harnesses?

renesisfury: in my friends s13 coupe he uses a bolt that's on top of the area behind the rear seats, i think that's the child restraint bolt, but i don't know how deep that hole goes on your 8. if it's deep enough and maintains a good angle, go for it.

There are mounting tabs(welded nuts), and reinforcement for the rear seat shoulder belts in a TII. I used these as a mounting point for my AX harness bar. Basicly, I cut, bent, and welded two ears to a piece of 1.5" rigid (not thinwall, you can tell because the rigid is threaded) electrical conduit. Bolted through the ends. I was going to make them available, but liability concerns kept me from doing so. Look at Porsche 911 harness bars to see what I mean. I'll bet Kirk will make one for you esp. if you mention those mounting points. Carl

Yeah, that probably wouldn't pass tech. We're a NASA , TCRA and STUSA tech site, and I probably wouldn't let it slide. Also, the Sparco 2" 4-pt harness doesn't meet any real racing safety requirements and is up to whoever you are running with to allow it or make you run the stock 3-point belt. The Schroth Rally3 and one other Schroth belt are the only DOT/FMV-approved belts, even now that Shroth builds Sparco's belts they don't meet the requirement. Also, Schroth's Rally belts on the lap section have special side mounts that allow bends to make sure the angle on the belt is acceptable. FWIW, the guy who was running an STi a few months back at an STUSA open track day at Street of Willow crashed while wearing the Sparco 4-point 2" harnesses as was his passenger...the passenger submarined under the belts and ended up in the footwell, and he had removed the steering wheel/airbag (as designed the OEM belts allow for some degree of slack to time itself with the airbag) for a Sparco steering wheel......initial impact sent his head into the steering wheel and secondary forces then submarined him under the belt....email me if you want the gory pictures, definitely a lesson learned when wanting to use the "show car belts".
