3rd gen frame damage?
 

I am looking into buying a 3rd gen RX7 for track use only. I am trying to do this on a budget, so many of the good examples of well maintained rx7’s are out of my price range, not to mention it would be a shame to buy a good example of an rx7 and then gut it. But many of the cars that are in my price range have been in some sort of accident, normally a front-end collision. Now I am very wary of buying any car that has been in any sort of accident for track use, but this leads me to my question. What exactly, in terms of racecar standards, is considered fixable damage with no degradation to performance? Specifically, what do I need to look for on a car that has been in an accident to ensure that it is not damaged beyond cost efficient repair, again with no degradation in performance? Thanks.

depends who did the work.....you never know till you actually own it

I saw a C5 T1 race car at LG Motorsports that hit the wall at 60 MPH.

They were pulling the frame back straight.

Basically, as long as it can safely be made straight, go for it.

Man in the states I would be scared of a wrecked car, if they are "pulling" the frame to straighten you will be left with creases in the frame regardless. no buts or exceptions, and once bent with a crease, its just like a tin can, it makes it weaker. over here the drill out the spot welds, buy a new piece from the factory, and weld it back in, while it sits on a frame gauge. if your talking about raceing at any serious competition, I would be very wary of driving a straightened frame. better to find a water damaged car, ie "flooded" and use it, it should be just as cheap as the wrecked body, without the wrinkels in the frame.

You can buy a FD hit in the front aslong as the person who is doing the frame work has the right machines to use when pulling the frame and correct body manual with dimensions you should be fine. My FD was pulled straight and back to factory spec dimensions. I have a slavaged FD you can see the before and after pictures @ www.nycrx7s.com

Talk to TurboJeff about that, ,(thats his usernanme I beleive) he refurbishes FDs and he's extremly good at it.
