E Mod is strictly a Solo II (autocross) class. I don't know what class it would be for road racing.

finky 04-03-03 09:30 AM

I wouldn't want to run against that.

RacerJason 04-03-03 09:40 AM

Nasa unlimited allows/ed engine swaps from other manufacturers I believe.

You really don't want to run against Scott McQueen's national champ Emod car. Take one Bugeye Sprite and insert one 3 rotor engine. It goes like stink. Actually, it's faster than stink. And it shoots big flames out the pipe.

I think it would actually be capable of exceeding the earth's gravitational pull and going into orbit :D

RacerJason 04-03-03 11:08 AM

Anywhere we can read up on this Sprite? :D

buttlips 04-03-03 11:31 AM

In SCCA road racing, you could run a 350 powered 7 in Super Production. SP is a run what you brung class. The only rules are that you meet the basic safety requirements of a Production Category car (i.e. it must have at least an 8 point cage welded in, fuel cell, on-board fire system, etc.)

RX-Heven 04-03-03 01:47 PM

Good god, a 20b in a bugeye sprite. I've driven a mildly hopped up one and it was ton'so'fun, can't imagine a 3 rotor in it. I'm assuming it is an n/a. Any more info on this car?

DamonB 04-03-03 02:23 PM

Scott regularly competes with the Bugeye in the Houston area. I see already he is entered for the National Tour in Houston this weekend, come by and see it if you're in the area.

Could also run it in ITE, without the fuel cell, if your local region supports it.

NASA it would be in Super Unlimited (and would need a fuel cell)

Ok thanks, i have just swaped a 350 into my rx7 and was wondering what i can run it in now. I have a fuel cell in the car now so ill look into NASA Super Unlimited.

compare 350 rx7 vs 93

I have never, ever been out run by a V8 moded RX7 or V8 moded Fiero. Never has happened, never will. Cannot handle like our cars can in the autocross arena.

Hey Allan your 93 R1 has way more equipment than my 93 R1. I will take your word for it.

RacerJason 04-07-03 08:00 AM

Autocross maybe...

Never say never... we had a 5 liter RX7 that was typically a podium finisher for two years running here in regional racing. Large fields, good variety of cars and it seemed to gobble up the competition. Now Autocrossing I can understand, but on a road course like Mosport, anything can happen.

Not to rain on your parade, but how good were the drivers in those V8-modded RX-7's? Auto-x is extremely driver-dependent (as you know), so it's hardly fair to compare an average driver in a killer car to a killer driver in an average car.

That being said, somebody on the forum actually weighed a ZZ4 crate motor and the 13B with all the turbos and accessories. The ZZ4 motor barely weighed more (like less than 100 pounds). Now, swap in an LS1 block, which is lighter than a cast-iron block like the ZZ4, and I'd say it's almost even. Weight distribution would be approximately the same (say 51/49) and now you'd have craploads of torque .... something RX-7's have never had. The car would handle almost the same ... some fine tuning with the suspension and you'd have a hell of an auto-x car. Although in EM, you'd still be WAAAYYYY overweight. :D

But on a road course, I'd argue that a LS1-powered RX-7 would be a very dominant car.

Spank..... I see that you can drive.... and have the parts:

Ground Contorl Coil Overs
Tri Point 2 way adjustible Koni Shocks
Tri Point F & R adjustable Sway Bars
New rotors all around
Hawk Pads
Steel Braided lines
17X10 CCW
275/40/17 Hoosiers

..... but I wouldn't say you will never get beaten by a V8 powered RX-7. RedRotor is right that an LS1 in an FD would make for a pretty crazy setup.

Swap in a stock LS1 (all aluminum) with upgraded cam, put on a nice exhaust, and K&N filter, have the ECU reprogrammed and there is one already running 120mph+ in the 1/4. Now add your suspension mods and the car would be an animal.

I love the 3rd gens.... but I just think they need more RELIABLE power.

More reliable power

MORE RELIABLE POWER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are absolutly right. I must admit, like most of us we dearly love our cars. However we also sweat that we will get too warm or blow an apex seal.

After you read this you must kill yourself however here goes! I love my car, but if you could give me the power and reliablity of your Buick Regal Grand National motor in my car I would switch.

There, I said it!

Just think would'nt that be killer. Now I know everybody will harrass me for what I just said. Oh well.

P.S. Running 315 in back now and will be trying 335's. Traction is such a bugger. But I have to tell you, I LOVE THE BIG TIRES!

redrotorR1 04-09-03 07:56 AM

Yikes .... on 10" wheels? 315's fit ... sorta. It'll have a slight cantilever look about it. Let us know if you can actually get the 335's to work on the 17x10. :)

315-335's

Running 17X11 CCW for the 315's. I have already fit the 335's on there and they looked really good. I will try them on our local events in a month or two to see how they work. I have to ensure they do not flex enough to really hit the wheel well. I am running 1/4 in spacers to keep the 315's out, and will do the same for the 335's. Like I said, I have had them on and they looked good on the car. But I will let you all know if they rub or not.

Hey Spank, got a pic of your car? I'd like to see what it looks like with those tires.

Sorry Toughguy, no pics. Even if I did, I do not know how to put them on the site.

Where are you at and I can let you know if I will be racing near you and you can come out to the race.

TOUGHGUY 04-09-03 09:07 PM

No can do. I'm in Ontario, Canada. Thanks anyways.

gnx7 04-10-03 06:03 PM

Spank..... you have a pretty bad ass car as you know. GN engine is pretty much a drag race setup only.... but it is a healthy one and the car still handles well.

335's out back

My dream is to do a hell machine FD with big brakes, the killer suspension, CCW's with 285/18's up front and 335/18's out back with a 427ci LS1 all aluminum 550rwhp N/A engine ($15K+ engine) on pump gas.

If you are having traction problems JIMLAB is currently finalizing a setup to install an '03 Ford Cobra 8.8 pumpkin into the FD and custom halfshafts that retains the FD suspension and gives you gear ratio choices from 3:08-5:13. The Ford Cobra pumpkin has gone 9.90's in stock form in a heavy 3500lb Rustang. Pretty impressive and more than adequate for road racing.

Nice setup once again,
