2nd gen ITS suspension setup
 

I'm building a 2nd gen rx7 for ITS road racing. Is anyone willing to share what the hot setup is for struts and spring rates?

Well I think everyone will have there own "hot setup". Every shock will have it's own spring rate suited to it. Some of the more popular setup are Koni's running 450lb fronts and 275lb rears. Depending on the valving higher spring rates can be run. Another setup is the Bilsteins, but I am not sure what spring rates are used. www.iscracing.net will have all the info you need on Bilstein.

I personally am running the "Economy" setup. KYB/AGX shocks with Ground Control hardware. I have 400lb springs up front and 275lb rears.

If money is no object then you should call Speedsource and get setup with the Advanced Design shock setup.

Are all the ITS 7's running adjustable coil-over setups or are the stock perches w/ stiffer&shorter springs a reasonable alternative? I would assume that camber adjustment plates are pretty much a requirement here.

The KYB/AGX shocks/struts are available on ebay for around $350 complete. Definitely a good deal.

I'm also building an FC track car that may see ITS someday. Hell, I'd just be happy if it sees the road again someday ;-)

"stock perches w/ stiffer&shorter springs" won't allow you to play with offsets and tire widths to the maximum extent the rules allow. Go Koni, Bilstein, or KYB with a ground control setup at the spring rates noted above for maximum flexibility and a good entrance to the learning curve of how your car handles on a track. Out of the dozen 7's that visit our local tracks throughout the season only one or two spend the money on true coilovers. Better to become a great driver first, then increase the capabilities of the car second.

Does anybody here have any experience with Tokico Illuminas on a 2nd gen? I was thinking of picking up a set for IT-S, and was wodering if anybody had any input.

They in combination with the Eibach/Ground control setup work real well on my ITA car... However.... I have noticed the shocks start to "go away" a bit in the areas where it has a LOT of shock travel at high rates. Granted I have them on.. I think 3.. would need to check them.. a medium setting. You notice them going away as the car starts having progressively more shock travel as the laps progress. They get progressively softer.. and the car moves around a lot more.

I didnt notice that as much with the Koni shocks on the 2nd gen.

I will most likely have to invest in some remote resivoir ones for the EP. :( (Hurts my wallet thinking about it)

Just remember... the cheaper the shocks.. the faster they will fade and become less and less effective after a half hour plus of hard laps.
Dont be scared to spend more than you wanted on the shocks. Eibach and Ground control are no brainers.. They are a winning ticket.
