2nd gen for gt racing?
 

hmm what are the small time races(like laguna seca)rracers do b4 they can move to gt/lemans?like privateers.i was thinkin about putting together a 2nd gen project.

heres a list put together of what i think i would do.

stripped and gutted
fender flares
big tires of course
sparco carbon seat
couple switches on a board
p.port n/a 3 rotor
electric water pump
pulley kit
miata battery
fuel cell
injectors(1600's all around)
big ass radiator
ast
braided lines(can never have enuff of these)
computer with a datalogit put in the dash
rollcage
short shifter
straight thru exhuast
maybe electromotive coil packs
msd ignition
autometer gauges
unsure about suspension maybe tein,give me a suggestion
lsd
reinforced rear end
body stiffeners and sway bars and strut braces

the reason i dont say turbo cuz i believe u might hafta stay n/a unsure.but block will clearance reinforced and keyed.give me some thoughts on what u think?

the latest GT specs from the ACO(organisation that governs the 24hrs of LeMans and the ALMS) would make it near impossible and not very profittable to run a 15 year old model that does not currently exist. just to make the car competitive with the Porsche GT3RS, Ferrari 550 maranello, and 360 Modena you would need to spend in excess of $500,000 to get it to the track, scrutineered and up to speed. when you can buy a brand new GT3RS for $250,000 and win without much developement time. it does not make economic sense to develope a new car, especially one that is no longer produced. this means no factory help in the developement. RX7's did great and dominated this type of racing 15 years ago and could in the future, just not with those 15 year old cars. new cars, lots of money, and some time is all that is needed.

im not looking at 24 hr lemans/gt.i know how much it would cost.im looking at like roadracing ,or an amatuer/privateer style racing. in case u didnt read what i said the first time.something ppl put together and race to start out and get recognition.if i was gonna try lemans like i said i wasnt goin too.i would build it to be turbo.if not i would go all out and make a kart car and drop an n/a pp 4 rotor in it.

this is for fun too.and yes im going try to check out putting 3 plugs per rotor.

Gawd, what are you trying to do? This is the second thread on this, we've already told you, LeMans GT class is out. I doubt they even have a classing for the RX-7.

Ok, now, we got that out of the way. Can we stop talking about Lemans? We're talking Amatuer club racing.

And in club racing, you have three options. Improved Touring. E-Production. GT2/3.

If you HAVE to run a turbo car, then you have two more options, but don't expect to be competitive.

Improved Touring/E, Super Production/Super Unlimited), and ONLY if your racing region supports those classes.

The car you described pretty much fits in E-Production, except for your engine porting. However, I encourage you to find the rule book (order from scca.org), and figure out what you can and can't do.

Improved Touring/S is for NA 13B powered RX-7s (84-92), permitting mostly suspension modifications, reuqires a 6 point cage. Chassis stiffening is not allowed. Minimum weight of ~2680 ( I forget the exact number). 15x7 wheels max. DOT tires.

E-Production allows a bunch of mods, some engine work. Cage allowed to extend through the firewall (IIRC), fuel cell and fire system required (again, IIRC), slicks and fender flares permitted. STREETPORT only

GT2/3 is typically a tube frame chassis.. Perhipheral port allowed (no bridgeport, IIRC), high dollars.

Anyway, tha'ts a quick and dirty run down. YMMV. Read the rule book before you start.

One question are you planning on racing for money? Or just for fun because if you plan on racing for money you need to look into the SCCA Pro series not the club racing. Either is loads of fun just depends on your budget really.

Contact MARIAH (http://www.mariahmotorsports.com/) they are currently campainging an E-Prod FC (w/ Wayne Grahm as Owner/Driver) and could probably give you a lot of info about building an E-Prod. or ITs 2nd Gen.

It yould probably be cheaper to start off by leasing a SPEC-7 or PRO-7 for a season to lean with then get into the more expensive cars - I think Mariah told me it would cost $20K for them to duplicate the E-Production car (not counting the donor car) w/o any spares.

It would no doubt be approached best by targeting a class and then working from there. Going and modding the car aimlessly will prove expensive and time consuming when the sanctioning body tells you half the stuff on the car is invalid.
