The #27 is down

I finally got a chance to pull the #27 apart and the problem is exactly what it felt like. The rear rotor bearing is toast. I credit the destruction to gas saturation of the oil, high temps caused by an exhaust leak blowing hot exhaust on the intake manifold and years of serious abuse. The rear and mid plates are torched pretty bad as well. We'll start scrounging up the parts to put it back together.

I have some pics on my website at www.rxracing.com

On the good side I pulled my Ge-Force gearset T5 apart and aside from some minor shift fork wear it looks great. The only issue I had with the T5 was oil coming out of the vent and hitting my exhaust. I've replaces the stock vent with a thread-in hose bung and I'll run an overflow can and breather setup above it. I'm not totally sure where I'm going to put the overflow for the trans, but I'll figure something out.

Cheers,
-Trent

Sucks about the motor, but thats a cool website you have though.

Any Idea, how many miles/hours and how much power(estimated not looking for dyno numbers) you were putting down with the engine? You say 'Years' of serous abuse, how many?

I just want to know more about your car, it must have been (is) fast (and good driver) to be Speedway time attack champion 2 years in a row. Any vids? More pics?

The car is 2305 lbs wet, with 1/2 tank of fuel and runs around the 400 rwhp mark at 14 lbs of boost.
I've dynoed it at 8 lbs for 340 rwhp and 459 at 18 lbs of boost.
The car detail are on the #27 page. http://www.rxracing.com/?page_id=80

Driver-wise, I'm competent. I'm certain I'm leaving some time out there though.

cheers,

That's awesome. 340 at 8psi!? And with slicks all around and 2300lbs, I bet thats a hell of a ride...

How many miles/years did you have on the engine?

Doing anything different with the engine this time around?

Have fun, I want your car someday.

I have three years on the last motor. It probably would have lasted longer, but heat killed it early. This build I'll be using a Pineapple racing aluminum oil pan to try and get more oil to soak up that heat. I'll also be using a different hotside (tial stainless) on the turbo to ensure there are no exhaust leaks. The goal is 450-500whp and up to 19 lbs of boost for an hour long enduro.
I figure I'll run this car for three more years and then hopefully swap to a tube frame FD.

cheers,
-Trent

Nice ride! Maybe consider something like this since your engine is apart?
