The engine had about 55 hours on it . Originally I was looking for a ls7 corvette engine to put in the car, but couldn't find one back in 2007 and a good deal on a 3 rotor showed up. I do like the character of the rotary and it has been reliable but more maintenance . We change plugs every race, use 50% race gas, change out turbo gaskets and hoses a lot, more tranny servicing with dog rings, etc. The ls7 rx7 hasn't touched the engine in 4 years, pump gas, and runs syncros as with all the torque he doesn't shift as often. It would cost too much to change now, and when the motor is fresh its usually 2 seconds a lap faster than the ls7.(740 whp versus 450 whp). We have both upgraded our cars for 2014 so it may be more competitive.
I usually shift at 7-7500 rpm. With the current turbo the power plateaus after that .
I shift early in a lot of the constant radius corners and use the low rpm torque of the engine to power through the corner. I tried one gear lower and the engine revs up so quick once on boost it just overpowers the rear tires and causes the back end to come around, and I have to get off the throttle. For 2014 we are going from the gt42turbo to a 9mm bigger turbine wheel. This should get us well over 800 whp.
There are a few fc 's. They never got lapped by this point. I have some good videos on youtube.
