1st Gen Race Pads

Before I default to Hawk Blues for my Pro-7/ITA car, are there any other pads that you folks would recommend for medium braking circuits?

I am pretty happy with blues

I've been using Carbotech's for a year now. I prefer them to the Hawks.
XP10 front. XP10/XP8 rear.

I always had good results with the Hawk Blues at Portland International . Minimal brake fade and good stopping power. I have run one track day with the Carbotechs. Same compound combination as sctty. Seem to be a very comparable pad to the Hawk, performance wise. One thing I do not like, is they are very dirty, a lot more dust from them, compared to the blues.

Interesting, as my experience is that nothing dusts more than a Hawk pad.

I prefer the Carbotech's as I find them much easier to modulate. On a Spec7, with laughably soft springs, rear brakes in particular are a pain. I find it much easier to manage rear lockup with the Carbotechs vs. the Hawks.

Definitely more pedal effort with the Carbotechs.

Hawks Work Great

I used both Blues and Blacks. Blacks do not grind the cast rotors and work well with out too much extra pedal effort.

Thanks for all of the feedback guys. I threw a set of Blues on the car so that I can get a baseline. How do the Carbotechs hold up with heat compared to the Blues?

sctty 04-01-08 01:36 PM

I've not had the Carbotech's fade as a result of heat. I also never had that happen with the Blues...so whatever that's worth. I spend most of my time at Summit Point, which seems to be fairly hard on brakes. I have the Mazdacomp brake cooling ducts.

Longevity wise, I think the Hawks might last just a bit longer. Maybe another race weekend. It's a bit hard to judge, as I would replace Blues after they were warn about halfway (when the cut out line in the center was no longer visible). On recommendation from the Carbotech guys, I use their pads until I'm almost at backing plate.
