160 miles of buttonwillow

i just got back from my frist time on buttonwillow raceway and let me just say it was amazing. its the most fun track ive driven and i felt almost immediately comfortable on it. we ran configuration #13 cw. a customer at the shop i work at invited my boss, the previous owner of the shop (he still works there) and me to a private session at buttonwillow. so i got the day off of work on thursday to drive buttonwillow all day. it was a very small and casual group, about 20 people. there were no run groups, you just went out and drove as long as you wanted. i ended up driving a little over 160 miles on the track. i would have driven more but i kept running out of gas and the pump for 91 octane was broken. i had to keep filling up with 100 octane at 6.50 per gallon, so that got pretty expensive. my rx7 performed better than i expected without having to make any adjustments besides for adjusting the rebound on my shocks. it was perfectly balanced and confidence inspiring. i really love running with 255's front and rear on a 9 and 9.5j wheel. the only thing i need to change would be my brake pads. i would like have ran track pads on my rx7 (ordering them after i type this). there was a private instructor and a few professional drivers in the group. so i got them to ride with me and give me pointers. they only needed to correct my line a little on two of the corners. one of them said to me "man you can drive the wheels off your rx7. its fast!" after my first stint of driving i had a few people come up to me and say "woah your car shoots awesome flames" they must have enjoyed huge flames coming out my tailpipe. at the event was mostly 911's, there was also a 944 turbo, m6, elise, v8 audi s4, and two old british race cars. everybody was really nice and i had a great time. i guess its an annual thing were these guys get together and rent a track for a day, i hope im invited again next year. the best part about it was i didnt have to pay a track fee!!!!

i only have a few pics because i was too busy driving!

Sounds like you had some fun! What kind of tires are you running?

I remember last time I was at Buttonwillow some guy in a M6 spun out on the first turn after the front straight, kicked up a huge cloud of dust, got on the track without being flagged on, and almost crashed right into me :pat:
