15x7 rims for ITS 2G - recommendations
 

A little help on a 15x7 rim to fit an ITS 2G.
Stockers are 15x6, Vert's are 15x6.5. But to run a 225 tire I'd much prefer a 15x7.
The 15x7 is the largest legal ITS size so please don't recommend a 16 or 17" rim
Anyone have any suggestions for an *inexpensive* 15x7 to fit the 5 lug hub.

I've tried all kinds of rims and it really comes down to a balancing act, price vs longevity. The best rims are Forgelines or some custom made wheel, cost can be up to $400 per corner.

I've found that the lightest reasonably priced wheels are the Kosei K1's. They seem to be durable and are very light. You need to keep in mind that in competition wheels tend to get bent or hacked up faster than they crack, so you may want to only purchase what you can get single wheels of for a reasonable price.

One funny thing is that I have a set of Cheviot Ultras that are 6 years old that are still straight and look good. A number of my newer wheel sets are long since bent (large runout issues) or look crappy.

Thanks for the response. $400 per corner..way out of my price range ;) Heck my whole car is only going to run me about $5k.
I have two sets of the 15x6 stockers but sure would like to find some 15x7's on the cheap.
But sage advice on the ability to buy rims individually in the futire if need be.

You can get a set of four, '93 - on, Ford Mustang wheels, 15 x 7, for $100 or so on ebay. I run them on my F Prepared FC. They are not hub-centric, but you may be able to purchase a set of rings from a wheel mfr.

These wheels feel very substantial, there are no small spokes that look like they are easy to crack. I didn't weigh them but I suspect they are around 15 pounds or less each.

I don't known the offset, but with the Hoosier cantilevers designed for EP, they easily clear my Eibachs on Tokico Illuminas, and easily clear the 4 piston calipers. And, they look nice on an FC.:)

IMO you can't beat the Koseis for price/wieght/durability. Keep in mind with the 38mm offset K1s you'll most likely need a 1/4" spacer to run 225 Hoosiers. I could run 225 Kumhos and Toyos fine but the Hoosiers are a bit wider and rub on the coilover collar.

Third for Kosei K1s.

Ralph...thanks for the suggestion? I'd heard about this before. Got a pic of what they look like...darn rustangs came with so many styles of rims I'd hate to start looking for the woring type.

Other gents...inexpensive source for the Kosei's?

Tirerack for the Koseis. And the Mustang wheels you're looking for a 3 spoke deal that you see on the V6 models. If it's 5-bolt and 15" you've found it.

Are you talking about the TeamDynamics wheels?

They're ~$500USD for a set, so basically the same price as Kosei K1's and they come in MANY more size & offsets

konig helium's are a very good lightweight 15-7 rim, my best friend used them on his gsr integra and he place in the top 5 of every auto-x event

I thought Konig Heliums were only 15 x 6 1/2. I'm on a budget so I ran convertible wheels for a while. They are very light and cheap too! I bought mine for $200 with centercaps and sold the centercaps for like $100! A 225/50 fits but does roll over a tad. Still works though. A lot of Honda guys run 225/50 on a 6 1/2inch rim. I just bought a used set of Kosei K1 racing 15 x 7 now. I dont know if this is a stupid question or what, but are the Kosei supposed to have plastic centering rings? I mounted the rims already without it and would assume the lug nuts will center the wheel correctly? I could always call the Tire Rack but thought I ask here first...

Yes, it's a hub centric design, i.e. the center hub is what 'locates' the wheel.. But I know several racers who don't bother with them.
