L C X 7 - unresponsive / possible thief

I purchased a set of fans from Ryan Earley on 7/9/07 using Paypal. I asked for a tracking number in my Paypal message and referred to the fans. Also sent him PMs following up on this and posted in the thread where he advertised the fans:

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=632715

I haven't received any response whatsoever to my PMs, emails or posts. I've checked on his Activity in his user profile and have seen him come on the forums on a daily basis.

I've been patient and given him the opportunity to either respond or for the part to show up but my patience has just run out. I filed a dispute with Paypal today and will wait and see if he responds. I have his address so the next step is to call the cops if I don't get my money back.

Think twice before working with this guy...

Wow, you opened a dispute with PayPal after a week?

Granted, it does sound fishy that the guy wants to withdraw the funds before he ships the stuff, but PayPal dispute in a week???

Yes, why not 1 week (actually 9 days and counting)?

The part should have been here by now and the guy is totally unresponsive. Why would I wait longer?

I always provide the people I sell to a tracking number and respond to their PMs and emails when they contact me about the order. There is absolutely no reason to ignore the people who are kind enough to buy your parts. Not doing so is a good sign that one is about to get scammed.

This also provides a warning to other forum members who might be dealing with him.

Finally got in touch with Ryan on paypal. Hopefully this gets worked out.

Hope it does. And being uncommunicative in situations like this IS irresponsible. People need to know that the seller they just sent money to is working to get them what they paid for in a timely fashion. Otherwise (especially on a forum with a history of scammers) they will think someone just stole their money.

Just wanted to let you know that this has been resolved.

L C X 7 07-29-07 03:52 PM

I just wanted to respond in this (as I JUST saw it)

Al was refunded for the fans, I was out town during the transaction and never even took the money out of my paypal account. I never recieved ONE PM from al after he sent payment, so I'm not sure what is going on there.

Anyways, I'm glad its resolved, but please give people atleast a week before starting a dispute. I am no scammer, others have done numerious amounts of transactions with me with no issues what so ever.

Thanks.

I'm glad you were civil in your post Ryan, Alberto is a friend of mine and a good guy :icon_tup:

gracer7-rx7 07-30-07 11:06 AM

Ryan was good to work with once I got his attention. It was just a bit difficult to do so for the circumstances that Ryan stated.

Did I pull the trigger too fast? In this situation yes. If you look at the dates, I did give you more than a week to respond. But I didn't feel comfortable waiting any longer for the previously stated reasons.

Best regards.

lol, these people and being overly paranoid. I would be pissed if someone A) started a good guy bad guy only after a week and b) made a paypal dispute after only a week. I'm supprised paypal didn't laugh in your face! If your going to be totally rediculous like this when doing transactions over the internet do us all a favor and just buy locally!

Maybe slightly paranoid but better paranoid than scammed, eh. :)
Do you like to be scammed? I don't.

There is no reason this seller or any other on the forum shouldn't be responsive to someone that gives them money for the stuff they are selling. All he had to do was say "I'm on vacation and I'll get back to you" and I would have left him alone. I asked for a tracking number and got nothing. Just b/c you are selling something over the "internet" doesn't mean you can be a lousy seller and ignore your customer.

I've bought quite a few thousand of dollars worth of parts from forum members over the last 4 years and all the legit ones sent me a tracking number and give me info about delivery and shipping.

Combine unresponsiveness with a low post count and it sounds like a scam happening. That's how it went down the last time it happened to me.

I'll buy from whomever and wherever I feel comfortable. Given your comments, I won't be buying anything from you given that you think its OK to ignore the people you sell to and not provide tracking numbers. :)

Cheers.

no ....... shit no, that doesn't make sense. A) the person your buying from is not a business so he/she may not be on days at a time on the rx7club. B) The person, not being a business, usually has another job where he/she spends most of the day so he/she doesn't have time to answer pms or get down to ups right away. C) You know the risk when you order on the forum. Maybe a little awarness about the buyer is a better thing than being paranoid (you know what I'm saying?). Maybe your rule should not be to buy stuff from newbies if your going to be so paranoid? I am very paranoid about newbies but I just skip the hole lets post a bad thread about him after only a week paranoia and just don't order from that person at all, it just saves a headache on both sides.
