It seems like your issue is related to the driver. In the past on Windows 7 I had good luck with drivers from this site:
Family Software Drag Racing - Newsletter#37, Prolific PL-2303 Driver Solution for Code 10
However, when I upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 I had issues. First I had a similar error message as you. I was able to get windows to recognize the adapter with a driver from the site I linked above. I ran into the next hurdle when FC Edit displayed the "interface not responding" error when trying to connect to the datalogit. It felt like I tried every driver I could find on the internet without luck. Finally I found success after deleting the driver and trying to connect without a driver. Windows device manager shows an error message that there is no driver installed, but it works for some reason. It is the only way I can get it to work on the laptop after installing Win10. I have no idea how it is working without a driver, but I'm not messing with it anymore.

Hmm, good advice. That seemed like it should work but now I'm getting a Run-time error '8020': Error reading comm device. I've tried both the new driver on this site and uninstalling the driver all together. My next step is registering the Datalogit and getting some support that way. Bummer...
Is the light on the Datalogit supposed to be red?
