FCWatch

Anyone know what has happened with this. I'm looking into doing this same thing with a car PC and custom SW.

open source is the only way we will ever see any of these projects completed, hope this one isn't already dead. Can we start a new thread for this?

Does this essentially take place of the datalogit which is $100-$200 higher in price?

I think I answered my own question.... http://apexi-usa.com/shop/index.php/...-software.html

Exciting stuff!!

This has been out fopr some time, I never tried it before as everyone here was very leaniant towards the Power FC Datalogit. however I tuned a Skyline with in not to long ago and was surprised at the user friendliness of it!

I am now in the process of tuning an FD with it. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

This is off a nissan tune. But basically the same format. Timing split is the only difference in that there are just two maps, a leading and a trailing, but no split screen like on the Datalogit.

It is more simple and has a few less features, but I think it does the job especially if you are not a seasoned tuner.

I saw that all these Apexi Power FC software threads die after promising results with no source code .
I did a bit of digging and was able to find some source code from Kashima .
He wrote a excel VB script that has all the neccesary code for the communication with the Dataloggit / FC Hako / His own cable and reads out all the sensor values .

http://kaele.com/~kashima/car/pfcadp/FCLoggerFD3S.xls

Is anyone interested to take this as a start and we develop a open source project simmilar to FC watch with that on google code ?
I really want to display digital gauges on my car . Maybe we could raise funds and get someone on freelancer.com to develop it for us ( i am unfortunately by no means a coder )
Or is there anyone with good coding skills that could start something from this code ?

Software Development

I would be willing to pick this up, I have been working the hardware end first. I now have a touchscreen installed that will connect to a car-pc. The software I will be developing is all windows based. I'm going to purchase the car-pc sometime within the next 1-2 months. Once I have it installed I will be able to provide more details on this project. The system will include wifi, blluetooth, GPS and a custom designed shell. I have been interested in this project for a while but have not had the time. I will now be making the time.

That would be awesome . What programming language do you intend to use ? I got my fc hako last week , my car will be released from customs next week . Would you be willing to make this open source , so we can get more people to contribute ?

PFC Software

My goal with this project is to build a plug & play framework that will have an API published so people can write in whatever language they wish. I primarily write in C++ which is what the framework will be written in. The default system will include GPS, USB radio, navigation and wifi. Once I officially start this project I will create a new build thread including the touch screen and computer install. My goal with my version is to have it look as factory as I can make it. As new features are added we should be able to write custom drivers to support new hardware and software elements.

Awesome , my project has started. It will be written in Python . I hope by christmas i have my car and can test . Currently i am only focusing to eastablish communication via FC Hako and a Raspberry Pie with Raspbian to read out the sensor values . After this i will make the project open source .

The r1 realease of my software is out . Its just a simple python script for now that is supposed to read out the sensor values and display them in decimal for now . I still have to test if it works , as i am still waiting for my car . Here is the thread

Hey Jim & Marc

Just as a idea , have you ever heard of MegaTunix ?
This software has already a lot of features and runs cross platform
Best of all its OPEN SOURCE . Why not just add the PFC there ?
I already contacted the Author , hope he will reply soon

Megatunix

That sounds interesting but I have a lot of stuff planned for this computer that has nothing to do with tuning. Yes, it will have a plug&play module for the PFC and any other we could come up with. It will also support GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, USB radio etc. This is the direction I'm planning on taking with it. Plus it will be a complete custom install that will look as factory as I can make it. I already have a 7" touch screen installed and just waiting for the holidays to end so I can start working on this.

Thanks

Jim

MegaTunix

Thanks for the input, I have looked at their stuff plus many others, so as I get closer to having the framework complete I will start a new thread for this project. My goal is to have a custom PC installed that will provide numerous functions.

Thanks

Jim

Car-PC

Hi Markus, yes I have started this. The first application will be a plug-in for a clock that you can configure as you wish. The second will use GPS to record position information, potentially calculated speed etc. I have defined the architecture that I will be using. So once I have some screen shots I will post them. This I think is going to be a fun project.

Monitor Install

All, as I have been looking into a car-pc I have finally installed my monitor. It is a Lilliput 7" with a VGA/DVI input. Hopefully my picture will show up. Thanks

Update

Hi Markus, when you are ready to start looking at something let me know. I plan on having something to look at sometime in February. Once that is going I will need to look into getting the cable that is needed to connect the PFC to my computer with USB. I know people have done that here, so I will need a little understanding of what cable I need.

Thanks

If your talking about with a datalogit then it's just a serial to USB cable.

Sorry to correct you Noxplus . It's not just a USB to Serial Cable otherwise It would not be so expensive . You can go and buy a Datalogit ( most expensive ) a fc hako or the box that one of the members here made
