large streetport start up-> adjust PFC settings?
 

Hy guys I'm going to do a first start up ,on my new engine (rebuild). It's got a large Judge Ito streetport but nothing other than that.

Stock twins converted to full non seq, but I'm going to put it on no boost for the startup and first hours of running it.

Should I already adjust the fuel settings on the pFC or can I just do the start up on the PFC base map. Normally it should already have a little upgrade fuel mapping compared to the stock ECU.

I have deleted the 3000rpm warm up thing so basically it should go right to idle.

Should start right up, will proabably have an ugly idle for a while and will probably need fuel adjustment to have a good idle.

Well it started up, but idle is like crap
i floats between 1500 and 1000 rpm. I tried both with and witout the fuel pressure solenoid and decided to leave it on.


Yesterday the engine ran for about 1. hour, sometimes stopping and restarting it
went pretty good.

Today it won't start. the trailing spark plugs are dry black, but the leading are half dry, half wet.
So I guess ign timing is way of for the leading ones.

I don't have a datalogit but PFC with commander so any info on how much I can adjust timing to have better start up and idle would be great.

I am actually in the same boat as you and i changed the plugs and it started right up even though the injector duty is at like 30-40 percent at idle lol

A large port engine needs more air and timing to idle smoothly and at a higher rpm level. The stock ECU when controlling idle through the ISC runs a timing way too retarded for the engine porting.

Depending on your air pump/ACV setup, you might need to disable the O2 FB control so that you can manually adjust idle AFRs.

Thx, I turned off lambda control and that helped a lot.

I'm not running any emissions.



What wonders me is that I first connected the vacuum line of the fuel pressure regulator to the UIM, which worked fine.
later I read up on another option to keep the fuel pressure solenoid in place so it would be easier on hot starts.

When I connect the fuel regulator solenoid, the car wouldn't start any longer.

The solenoid might be broken so I'll put another one as a test. I don't expect it to help but it's a small effort.

anybody got this problem too?

The FPR solenoid only slightly increases fuel pressure while cranking.
Look it in the FSM and you will see that MAzda's resaon for it does not make any logical sence.

ok, so that one goes as well:) though 'm replacing it with a resistor, just like thhe other solenoids
