Installed PFC today and wont go above 3000?
I Intsalled my PFC today and did the learning process for the idle. That went well. Everything is as it should be. When I went to pull it into the garage it would cut out at 2000-3000 and I could barely move the car. I checked the rev limiter page and it is set at 8100. So what else could the problem be?
|
I doubt this is the same problem that you are having, but when I installed my 3-bar map sensor it wasn't letting me rev above 3000rpms. I just sent it to rx7store.net to get it corrected for the use of the sensor.

there is a "valet mode" that won't let the revs go above a certain level IIRC. It's either that or the valet mode significantly reduces the boost pressure. Either way do a quick search for that and it will give some more in depth answers.

There is no "valet mode", the closest thing is the rev limiter, which he has already checked.
Is this a brand new PFC? |
I distinctly remember it being mentioned on multiple other occassions, and talking with someone over AIM about it, this was all awhile ago though...
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ght=valet+mode https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ght=valet+mode It does appear it is a rev limiting function, and ironically limits the rpm's to 3,000. The second link has a description of how to access it, you do need the commander for the PFC. |
I am sorry because I still never put down enough info. Brand New PFC just installed. I have the commander. I Do the intsall accroding to dale clarks insturctions. (the whole 10 min thing) and after I did that the car idled awsome a notable difference from before. I go to pull it in and it stops exactly around three thousand and drops back to a idle.
First thing is when I removed the old ECU is there supposed to be a medium sized black box? There was that and two grounding straps. I do not recognize those. with that said what should i do Reset it? or someting else. Thanks so much for trying to help me. Jeremy |
a medium sized black box??? on stock ecu. when i pulled mine out 93 fd. its just the square stainless steel box. no black box or anything.
|
Sounds like you are talking about the recall box it sounds like that was added for the fans to run with the car off. (the little black box anyhow.) If you don't have a black box hooked inline with some of your ECU wiring it should be ok. I beleive thats just a recall item if your car had it. Mine had it and I removed it... it looked like it had water in it at some point anyhow....

Why wasn't this posted in the PFC forum where it belongs ?
STRIKE ONE! |

Just using the COMMANDER to set the fuel cut to a low rpm value to prevent the engine from reving higher than that setting. STRIKE TWO! |
The normal problems associated with installing a new PFC after the idle learning processs is idle hunting or idle unstability.
Did you ground the the two grounding connectors? Was the battery disconnected when you did the swap? What if any engine mods have been done to your engine? Was any other work done to the engine at the same time? |
Did you ground the the two grounding connectors? Yes
Was the battery disconnected when you did the swap? Yes What if any engine mods have been done to your engine? There isnt any Was any other work done to the engine at the same time? No This was the only thing. I did a sensor check and the VAT1(Full range throttle sensor) is coming up bad. Wht sensor is that and how do I fix it? |

Pull the FSM from one of the URLs listed at the top of the forum. Go read section "F" which contains the most useful engine opertional information. For now just find the part about how to test and adjust the TPS. Most likely you will have to pull the TB and replace the 2 screws with small bolts to make it adjustable (another Mazda screw up). If you are lucky, someone already fixed the screw problem for you. A trick, the engine does not have to be fully warmed up, pushing down on the fast idle cam adjustable lever, will disengage the cam and lit the throttle close completely as if the engine is warmed up. But you hvae to hold the lever down while taking your readings. |

There is no VALET function, by any name on the PFC! Go back and read the threads you linked. The first one talks about lowering the rev limiter on the PFC (which I pointed out in Post #4), the second one isn't even talking about the PFC, but the PFS PMS.
The "trick" that people refer to as the "valet mode" is lowering the rev limiter. That's it. And we've already established that that isn't the problem. Can we move on to more constructive things now? |
Yea, that's what I just said...
By all means fix the mans problem, no need to belittle other members trying to help him in the process. |
Help that is wrong is worse than no help at all.

Ok well I realized the screw problem was not taken care of so i removed the throttle body completely. When I checked the pfc it was still only sayingvat1 was bad and at the same voltage 4.88. Does that mean it reads the voltage off the female end of the tps sensor? is the whole sensor is bad? that is why it dpesnt matter whether it is plugged in or not....... or is something else bad. I am really confused. I plug the old ecu back in and the car works fine but the power fc cuts off completley at 3000 and goes back down to a idle.... Please help
|
Both voltages have to be in range at idle, and smoothly increase as the throttle is opened all the way to their maximum voltage at full open throttle. This means no dips or flat spots. The TPS is nothing more than two variable resistors like a stereo volume control.
Your last post is vague and hard to fully understand what you are trying to say. First determine if the TPS is bad or not (that means any one of the two voltages. As I said earlier, read the FSM section "F" on testing the TPS. If the TPS is good, try re-initializing the PFC. |
