First Mod: PFC
Hey Guys. I'm moving back to the states in August and I'm planning on dropping good money into my car. I've gotta road trip it from Cincinnatti to the East Coast first because its been at my uncle's house for a while. I don't want to start on any mods without getting a PFC in first. I'm still thrown off by how it works as far as programming. Does the unit come pre-programmed for the stock RX-7 wherever you buy it, or do you have to take it to a tuner or buy it from SR? I'm planning to get the commander with it so I can do all the tuning for future mods myself. I just need to know what you guys think is the best way to go with this. If its worth the extra money to have it pre-tuned from SR, I'll go there, but if it comes with the stock program from rx7store.net or if the stock settings are easy to program in yourself, I'd rather save the $200 difference between the options. I would rather have plug and play option there so that I don't have to road trip without the unit installed or worry about getting it programmed right, but if its easy enough, let me know what I should do. Thanks for the help.

Depends on how many and what mods you will be making, and when. Some mods can be programmed for with the commander. Some can't. If you want 1600cc secondary injectors, the the PFC has to be sent to XS, or you need to buy a DATALOGIT.
The last I heard, Ray does not have the Apexi software to internally change maps that are not accessable with the commander. If you are making mods slowly, then it would be too costly to keep sending you PFC in for reprogramming. |
Ok, thanks. I plan to do all the mods I listed at once. I was hoping I could avoid the larger injector move until the next installment, but it very well may be necessary. I was planning to keep the boost down to avoid running lean and hot before I go for a new intercooler, radiator, and injectors. What's the deal on the Datalogit, by the way? I'm not too familiar with that?
Thanks again for the help. -Mako |
Search this forum for the DATALOGIT. It is a aftermarket device similar to what Apexi makes to tune the PFC. It is used with a laptop PC. Costs under $400.

Thanks guys. I'll look into the DATALOGIT information.
