cable fab
Is there anyway to fab up a cable that runs from the PFC to serial?? I just am having a hard time justifying the $300 cable.

If you have a basic knowledge of wiring and soldering, it is a cheap and easy fix. My DL to PFC cable got hosed and I replaced it. with a PSB2. I also ran a remote female connector on the tranny tunnel from the PFC. This way it is easy to swap commander with DL. |
So its just a ps2 connector? As in the same one found on old mice? I know I can make the wire part, is there anywhere that has a schematic so I get the right wires to the right pins on the serial cable??

Sounds to me like he is asking how to make his own datalogit.

I guess so yeah, I read around a bit more, and you have to have the datalogger box right?

If you have to ask how to match wires from the original cable to a new cable with different color codes, then you are not electronically educated enough to do the job. Time to learn how to trace wiring with a ohm meter. Apples to apples, pears to pears, etc. |

It does not take a schematic, it takes simple electrical understanding.

The Datalogit is more than just a cable. You plug the Datalogit box into the port on the PFC where the Commander goes, then the box has a cable out of it that goes to your computer. Optionally, you can plug your Commander into an output port on the Datalogit box to retain its functionality.
|
If you make a cable, how exactly do you think you are going to interface with the PFC? You need the Datalogit box and software to do anything!
|
If you are going to engineer your own software ro read the PFC like the commander does, then it does not matter because you do not have to match any existing hardware.
|
I'm not a hardware guy, but I don't think the RS232 serial standard is used between the Commander and the PFC, thus the need for a hardware "mediator." Because of this, you can't simply send commands from a PC to the PFC.
