PFS PMC problem

This is my second post on my problem, first is in the main 3rd gen forum.... hope that's not a problem. My car runs ok w/ my mods and w/o the computer installed. I have the purple version and when it is installed, the car is undriveable. It pops like it is almost backfiring and the noise sounds like it is coming from the engine bay itself, not out the exhaust. Could be wrong, but hard to tell while driving and trying to read my keypad all at once. It also almost completely cuts out at 4.5k rpm, not sure why. I just changed my plugs (NGK 9's) and added a ground.... see pic. Any help would be most appreciated. About ready to torch car and buy something more reliable... j/k.

If it runs fine without the PMS but runs really bad with the PMS, then it sounds like either the PMS has something wrong with it or the programs in it are way off. What are your mods and what are your settings in the PMS?

In the meantime, just use your stock ECU and limit your boost to 10psi.

Sorry, thought I included my sig. Can't limit boost, except for factory setting b/c controlled boost w/ pmc. I'll just take it easy and run w/o the pmc for now. What I don't get is it worked fine when I had everything in a year ago, now it has gone to poop! Could I send it to EFI? Mabey I'll write them and ask them what's up. I just thought mabey it wasn't my pmc and it was just exasturbating the problem.
I just downloaded the manual from EFI, so still learning. My fuel is hitting around 80% at WOT, Boost is around 11 psi. One time I received an error code "Spark output", and after I changed plugs I received a "Spark input" error, but after shutting down and restarting, it was gone.

Get rid of the PFS unit, they suck. Totally screwed my car up until I bought a good replacement ECU. You will be happier, trust me,

Yes you can send it to EFI if you go through some troubleshooting with them and it appears the unit isn't working properly.

You just need to limit your boost to 10psi to run with the stock ECU. You can do this a number of ways, none of them are hard. If you need suggestions, just ask.

Those spark problems don't usually mean anything, every once in awhile mine throws one of those codes.

Plug up the PMS and read the maps from it. Sounds like your maps might just be really messed up. The PMS shouldn't be causing your car to run that badly.

yeah, i would agree with wade- when i first boughtt mine, the guy who sold it to me put in what he felt would be good maps for my mods. I installed it and the car ran like s**t. it backfired, idled horribly, etc... anyway, i ended up just zeroing everything out and drove it around town. After a while, the car started to run better. After lots of discussions and input from wade, the car is running smooth and strong.

Post your mods and post your PT settings, idle settings, and settings from menu 6.

Don't forget to visit Wade's site. I found it very helpful.

The Yahoo EFI PMS group is good, too.

I'll post the URLs when I get home, I'm not on my computer... unless someone beats me to it.

The EFI PMS is not plug-and-play like the PowerFC, but it's a pretty good device. Correct me if this is the wrong approach, but I think it's easiest to start with a very mild tune (with the EFI PMS keeping boost/fuel levels at or near stock) and working up from there. Add a little boost, add a little fuel, etc. Always error on the side of extra fuel and watch the O2 Sensor output.

Do you guys agree?

Ignore the bad-mouthing of the PFS computer. The PFS computer does what it is supposed to do.

The most obvious way to solve the problem is go see Peter Farrell in Manassas Virginia. That can't take long from Richmond. He will get you up and running in a flash.

the easiest way is to save yourself the money, read wade's site, do a search on here - most of the problems you will run into with the PMC have been addressed on the forum (or the big list) -
