Peter Farrell software for the piggy computer
 

Does anyone know where, besides PF Supercars, I can get the software used for the Managment control unit (Purple Box)? I really would rather not pay the inflated price of $299 at PFsupercars. Somebody told me a while ago that their is another company that sells a software that's similar to it.

I am not sure it is any cheaper direct, though. It might be worth supporting an RX-7 vendor if it isn't. And even if it is, you might consider the availability of support from PFS to be worth any extra cost if you buy it through them.

I used to have it, until my compuer crashed. I recall the problem with copying the software was that when using windows, it would not see and copy a hidden file required to run the program. That's why it's always been hard to find copies. That being said, there are old DOS programs you can find on old web sites which can copy it (as I've made several successful copies in the past). Anyway, I know that doesn't really help you as far as the software is concerned, but at least might some good info you didn't know...

I have the disk and the whole unit for sale. I would be willing to make a copy but I dont exactly know how to do it. It isn't as simple as just copying the disk?

If it's on a CD, then you would need a CD burner. I think most computers now have CD burners.

No it is on a 3.5" floppy. If it is as simple as copying the disk then, it is no problem...I can make copies of the disk....but I dont think it is that simple. I think that is what silver93 was alluding to.

I wish I had a computer that had a floppy drive...

My understanding was that the software brands itself to the serial number of the PMC and is only usable with that unit.

You will not have to worry about paying our inflated prices, as we do not offer the software anymore. Finding a usable copy will be tough, because of the time install feature.

Time install feature? So that's inflated and impossible. Nice.

The software is essentially copy protected. You can use it on any PFS PMS so long as it's your original disk.

The feature was designed in by the software author, Plus One Micro, who had this strange idea that they should be paid for their work.

I can appreciate a company's right to protect its work, thereby its profit margin. But to do so at the expense of the customer, in more ways than one, is wrong. I'm not a computer scientist, but there seems to be a design flaw here. I can appreciate that the company should protect their software from being copied. The problem I have is when the software renders the hardware, i.e. the Engine Control/Management Unit, incapacitated`for any other software even of its own kind, whether bought or otherwise. That's kind of like saying, when I download Microsoft Word on my computer, then that's the only copy of Microsoft Word, I can ever download on my computer. But as I said earlier, I'm not a computer scientist, Cromagnon with a lead foot.

They were asking $299 for this software?
