Apexi Power FC vs. PFS PMC

Thought I'd start out to say that I did search but couldn't find anything. My car has been in the shop the past 3 month's trying to get a new motor in (kinda crazy, huh?). I'm finally getting the motor in and should get it back in a couple weeks. They are going to be putting a new reman Mazda motor in. I wanted to get a stronger motor built but my warranty company won't allow it. You can see my mods I have listed below on my signature. Right now I got a RE Amemiya ECU to support the mods. I'm thinking I need to get either the Apexi or PFS controller instead. Does anyone have any input on this? I have posted in the past about the ECU I have now and the things it does.

Apples and Oranges

I don't think you searched well. There is also a ECU forum that you can browse and search. (don't take that as being rude)

The PFS is a piggyback computer that requires the OEM ECU. The PFC is stand alone computer that replaces it.

The PFS is totaly outdated but if you need a comparison there is Buddy Club with datalogic software that is at least $300 less then a new PFS.

The AEM ECU is stand alone and approximately the same cost but not enough people have it for the comparison.

I would also like to add that it helps, when purchasing a programmable ECU, getting one that local people around you are running.

This forum can be very helpful, but nothing is better than local help (since they can see what's happening and be there in person to help). Having something local people are familar with will make your life a LOT easier.

I agree wiht majik. I chose my setup based on what was around me. I think the PMS is decent if you just sticking wiht bolt ons. The is a shop not to far from me that have been using that system on mustangs for years and they have helped me out a bit.

Yeah, I was planning on having a guy from Omaha (2 1/2 hour drive) to tune it for me. He has a dyno shop and is very good at tuning. And thanks goracer, I forgot about the forum. I haven't been here for awhile, so I forgot where everything was, lol.

It helps if you can find a local or two with both systems to compare them yourself . I live close to the PFS shop and chose to have the Apexi PFC installed with my new core . I am still a rookie with the PFC but the amount of data this gives you blows away the PMS system . Even if you do not tune it yourself its just impressive to know what going on in the motor . So much so I really wonder how you can live without one now I have mine installed . Most guys I know that use the PMS like to just turn that knob and let the PMS do its struff. The hand held monitior is very outdated ( one inch led's ) and a bunch of keys for other manufactures applications .The PFC is very straight foward .Check them both out , and my two cents the PMS is a good deal for under $500 if you can find a used unit . If your going new $900 , pay the extra three hundred and get the PFC

For $500 you can get a "new" Buddy Club piggy back ECU. For another $150 you get state of the art datalogic software that can be tuned with a lap top. Why would you pay $300-$450 more for an outdated PMS.

Even for a "used" PMS at $500, wouldn't you swing the extra cash ($150) for the Buddy Club's datalogic software instead?

are you guys talking about the purple motor eater . iwouldn't buy anything from the place or person .everyboby is seeing that the best ecu is the apexi unit .my ecu is going bad and i'm going tobuy the apex i when i get extra cash to buy it .
