wiring a 2jz....
 

hi guys.. i just biought my 2jz engine yesterday, and i would like to swap it in FD :) . i found a guy close by the area i live in that gonna make the mount for me. i asked him about the wiring he told me that he will do the wiring for 1000 dollars , and i don't have this amount in my budget. So guys does anybody knows about wiring a 2 jz into FD?

If you're going to do a swap that isnt common you either need to be able to do everything yourself or have a huge budget. Not trying to be an ass in anyway, i think its cool you want to do this.

BUT
On common swaps you still get nickel and dimed to death, on uncommon swaps this is multiplied x10. Little things will pop up that havent been thought of because only 2 people (iirc) have done that swap.

Best of luck on this swap, if this is any help, someone swapped a 2jz in a rx8. http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.ph...t=supra+engine. I think a shop did his swap, i'm not quite sure but look it over and maybe ask him a few questions.

If you don't have the budget for $1,000 wiring mods then you shouldn't even begin this project.

Plan on it costing $15-20K easy doing everything yourself. That doesn't even count the price of an FD chassis.

If you don't have to worry about OBD and are content ditching a factory style dash for aftermarket gauges, you might be best served to run a good standalone. Toyota fuel injection doesn't exactly have the best reputation for being tuner friendly among the people I know, so trying to put it on seems pointless. Of course, that logic can be extended to many things, and if you want to do it that way, best of luck.

I have done it to my FD. It's not hard, just get both the mazda and toyota wiring diagrams and see what you need.

It will take many man hours to complete the wiring. $1000 really isn't a bad quote.

Wouldn't the amount of wiring be drastically reduced if a AEM standalone was used.

not really that I can think of. To be honest, since I am using the AEM, I had to do even more wiring to make it work w/ the 2jz. However, there isn't that much wiring to do in the first place.

You are looking at a minimum of 15k for the project. 3-5 for the motor, 1-2 for the V160 Getrag 6 speed (if you are smart, you will use that tranny), 500-1000 for proper rear end, another 500 for driveshaft....and a TON of research and labor for your wiring and fitting of the motor in the car. I swapped in a 1jz into my 87 stock 7mgte....best thing I have ever done, but if you don't know what you are doing...you will screw that up....and that 1jz is from the same car!! If you don't have the 1,000 for wiring...as mentioned before....you don't need to start the project. Good luck though with what you choose.
