Why is this section of the forum so tiny?
All three generations of the rx-7 are very popular cars for several different engine swaps, from the ever so popular chevy and ford small blocks to sr20det and every thing in between. There are a lot of swapped rx-7's, and a lot of people in the process of a swap, whether or not you like or dislike the idea of putting a piston motor in a rx-7 there are many dark siders and this forum just has a small sub category for this large group of rx-7 owners. Why not just make an engine swap category, with sub sections for the largely different engines (i.e. the push rod section for small blocks and US made 6 cyl, the I-4 section for the sr-20, ford 2.3 turbo and etc, and the I-6 for the nissan rb's and the yoda 2jz and what ever else) I'm on v8rx7forum and though it's nice to have that forum, it's very disorganized, lacks the sheer numbers of members rx7club has. Maybe you could talk to grannys speed shop about sponsoring the section and there you go. Just my $.02
|
not going to happen cause it will end up like most things in this section rotards(and i dont mean everyone. you know if you are one) come in whinning and crying cause we are ruining theses cars. blah blah blah
|
V8RX7Forum is disorganized compared to here? How do you figure?
|
v8rx7forum doesn't have as many categories and subforums as rx7club, but the search feature works really well...

It doesn't need to have as many, it has 1/100th the amount of users. The difference? 50-60% of the users there know what the hell they're talking about. 1-2% of the ones here do.

to answer the OP, you bring up a really good point, but as someone said before, all the threads will probably end up with a bunch of flaming. i dont understand why the other engine swap sec isnt flame-free, i mean seriously, if you dont like the idea of a piston-powered rx7, just DONT GO INTO THIS SECTION. how hard is that? leave this section to those who have real question and real answers. if you wanna bitch about piston driven rx's go to the friggin lounge or the generation specific non-technical section or whatever..../rant |
Actually, since there are "alternate" engine RX-7 sites, why join here?
On the "50-60% of the users there know what the hell they're talking about. 1-2% of the ones here do," bit...yea, right...I'm hoping you mean just swapping and not general "gearheadedness." Regarding the swap thing, the lighter V8's don't seem to upset the handling too much on the 2nd and 3rdgen RX-7's but it's been proven over and over again in GRM's annual shootouts that V8 1stgen RX-7's simply lose their handling and braking ability because of the weight and position of the V8. They never place well...but a V8 2ndgen did win it twice, I believe. This corner won't get bigger because, from the beginning, RX-7 Club has mainly been about the rotary community saving, building and supporting these cars. In the honest opinions of many of us, you're not doing that when you abandon the rotary engine that came with the car. ;) Mario III |

Like digitalsolo implied, you sometimes have to dig to find it. :( |
FWIW, I'm also a member here because I like reading the rotary builds as well. Much like Porsches, Lambos, and other cars, just because I don't have one doesn't mean they don't interest me. :) A -real- car guy, likes cars, regardless of powerplant. ;)

Other than to funnel people to www.v8rx7forum.com, I see no reason this part of the forum exists here, as it rubs so many the wrong way. I'd think a simple link to the swap forum could replace this section entirely.
That's not going to happen anytime soon. ;) Go hang out in the 2ndgen section for a bit. Say no more! :icon_tup:  |

Not true...talk to any true Pontiac man and they'll you the last real Pontiac was made in 1978, when the 400 cid mills were finally used up and they switched completely to the "corporate" SBC...
The worst thing you can see at a meet is a poor, violated 1967, 68 or 69 Firebird with a crappy orange Chevy engine in it. I've got the '68 Pontiac Firebird Pro-Street car up for sale and I simply make it impossible to buy if they tell me they're going to stick a BBC in it.  |

Well, down here in Tejas....
that thar motor done don't belong in that chassis, ya pencil-neck geek...
<spits tobacco juice on your fender> :crackup::crackup::crackup::crackup::crackup: |

<spits tobacco juice on your fender>:crackup::crackup::crackup::crackup: I have a '79 WS6 TA, 400/4sp/4 wheel disc car, and I'm catching shit for wanting to put an SD455 engine out of a '74 TA in it. |

I have a '79 WS6 TA, 400/4sp/4 wheel disc car, and I'm catching shit for wanting to put an SD455 engine out of a '74 TA in it. Seeya at the Cheddar's Meet and maybe MSR, eh?  |
The '79 is NM, I bought it new. :) Currently has 22k miles, all driven by me. :)
The SD engine came from Glenn Tinsley down in Houston, it came out of a rusted hulk he turned into a drag car (long time ago). He sold me the motor to finance the drag car. You would cry if you knew what I paid for that SD. You would cry even more if you knew what I paid for the NM '71 TA w/ 455HO that's also in the driveway :) But I digress.... The 7 goes back to the body man this weekend to get the new paint buffed out, I hope to have it back on the road in time for the MSR event in May. :icon_tup: |
The thread hijack is complete....I happen to have a '71 HO engine on an engine stand...the heads and intake were gone but it was yanked from a Judge GTO way back in the day...been sitting on it ever since...thank goodness I didn't follow my young pup desires to cut the crank to stroke it...I gotta check out the thread on the track day...think they're pitching for the money from the consignees.
Think I'll also pop out and see what this board looks like... |
