Vq35de

Has anyone done this swap? prices sould be coming down on this engine with the high volume produced.

FC3S.USD 11-22-05 11:05 PM

Into what car ? and for what reason ? .

abefroeman 11-22-05 11:09 PM

I guess I was thinking 3rd gen.
But if there is one into a 1st or 2nd generation that would be cool too.
I am just curious, it is a swap that I have not seen either here or on the net.

Well i dont think its really worth while though.

The stock FD motor with stock turbos with upgrades can push more than the vq motor.

Wait a year for the VQ based 3.xL displacement twin turbo out of the US Market Inifinity GT-R to be released. Should be a stout power plant. :)

No one asked if you though it was worth it...

The VQ can make gobs of power boosted. The VQ35DE from the Z33 has easily dynoed 400RWHP on 8lbs out of the Greddy TT kit with similar numbers from Top Secret and other guys.

No one has done the VQ35 as of yet, but someone HAS done the VQ30DE from the Maxima in an FC. He used the Z33 six speed. There was someone working on a VQ30DET swap but I don't think it ever happend. The VQ30DET is the OEM turbo motor from the Nissan Gloria in Japan. It can be had for quite cheap and the Z33 transmission is pretty cheap as well it would seem. Since they are all the VQ series, they share just about everything.

Cool

To me, it sounds like an interesting swap, and it would be even more attractive if it could be done with the stock steering rack. Is there a v6 or similar swap that retains the stock rack?

-as to whether it is worth it: I hadn’t really thought about this, but when comparing any 2 long term projects you have to think long term. If you are comparing against a 13b and it is your intent to own the car for over 50,000 miles, the cost of a 13b rebuild (discounted to today's dollars) needs to be factored into the decision.

-I am also sure that whether this swap or that swap is worth it has been debated on these forums far to many times so no avail so lets not rehash this. People will do what they want with their money.

Ummm the V8 swaps keep the steering rack in the stock place for the most part. I dont see how a shorter engine would require moving it...

My only suggestion is... look into the costs of this, and look into some of the more commonly done swaps - theres a reason they're popular.

?

I got the impression that they required relocation of the stock steering rack from the hinson supercars website. They require a bumpsteer correction kit with their kits.

Bump Steer Correction (Mandatory) $115.00
it is in the section for 3rd gen rx7's under LS1 mounting equipment.

I guess I thought that this was used to correct bumpsteer after the rack was moved. What is this item for if not to correct the effects of a different steering rack?

On the 3rd gen with an LS1, the steering rack does get relocated lower.

The problem with the VQ35 swaps is this engine uses a drive by wire TB and has it's theft deterrent encoded keys. I think the LS1 swaps have this all worked out but if you want to do this with a Nissan, you are on your own. The guy that put a VQ30 into a FC had to take the wiring harness and strip it down by 2/3. Also although the VQs are all "similar", they do have important minor differences in clutch/flywheel clearances, Crank/cam angle sensors etc.....

The VQ35 would be a very nice choice as they put down anywhere from 250-298hp. ie.. Altima/maxima FWD version to the latest G/Z versions.

But a VQ30 might be easier to wire up. 190-222hp depending on the year

I would expect the automotive aftermarket has found a bypass for the keys via the remote start companies. This could be employed for the swap.

Drive by wire TB is a pretty easy fix. Worst case might be modifying said TB to use a throttle cam and having to drill it for idle speed vs. an IAC motor.

Interesting swap idea for sure. Now someone just build it!

psychotic7 12-26-05 07:11 PM

that is a cool motor but why not just use a vg30 as granny's speed shop already make a conversion kit for it....all i know is you will have issues with the huge intake manifolds, you will have to fab one out of sheet metal or maybe go individual throttle body. anyway you go its gonna run you a ton of money.

MARTIN 01-04-06 04:06 AM

Im sure with an aftermarket TB you wouldnt have a prob... and forget about running it with the stock computer.... itsnot worth it...
