Vq Fd

Has anyone tried mounting the VQ in a FD?

Did a search but it either comes up with nothing or keeps giving me error messages.

vq30de or vq35de, both are nissan made dohc v6's the vq30de is found in newer maxima's and the vq35de is found only in the new 350z/infinity G35. they are all aluminum and the vq30de only weigh's 200lbs.
someone on www.torquecentral.com has a running vq30de powered fc, he used a 6-speed from a 350z but he had some miner fittment issues.
if you do a search for maxima or nissan on torquecentral it should pop right up and he did a great right up.
good luck

I'd beware of using the VQ35 with the 6 speed out of a 350Z as that tranny is notoriously fragile. Car and Driver's long term 350Z had broken it's tranny at about 25,000 miles! Can you imagine how expensive it'd be to replace the tranny that regularly, and that's with a stock engine, no headers, intake, exhaust or forced induction. I've never heard of anyone breaking a 300ZX tranny though, so that's probably the better option.

Take measurements. If you're talking about the engine out of a z32 it's super heavy and wide. A very pour canidate imo.

I hate to sound like a know it all but, the Z32 came with a vG30de not a vQ35de. nissan's bad about giving completely different motors almost the same name.
however, you're right about the Z32 motors, they're too heavy, too wide, and and they aren't known for there durability.
here's the link to the write-up on torquecentral http://www.torquecentral.com/showthr...ghlight=maxima

I put a VQ into an FC. It is NOT an easy fit. The motor is light though. As far as the 350z trans being fragile I wouldn't word it that way. the syncros suck. The gears seem strong enough. I haven't pulled it apart yet to see what is going on. I've got the stupid 350z 3rd gear grind. Funny how nissan insn't interested in doing any warrenty work :D

yeah, they're not exactly fragile, but you can pick up bad synchro trannies from nissan for about $100 :)
