Subaru EJ into FC?

I've read a few posts about people wanting to put a Subaru EJ series engine into their RX-7, but there are no definitive answers as to whether it is actually possible. I have a 1997 Subaru Legacy GT which I plan to swap a 2.0L EJ series STi engine into probably next spring. I also have a FC RX-7 with no engine sitting in my laneway, so I would want to try putting my current EJ25 engine into the RX-7 after the swap is done on the Subaru. I might also try just putting the STi engine into the RX-7 straight away, and postponing the swap on the Subaru.

I just want to know if anyone has actually tried putting a Subaru EJ engine into an RX-7, and if it worked or not. Should I even waste my time trying?

Thanks.

i would like to know the same thing since i have a complete wrx engine sitting here. i have old engine parts from my 04 sti that i could build a sick motor with. and i just so happen to have an fb that needs an engine.

i say f it and put the awd tranny in as well, anyone that did the ej series engine would be half way there.

To wide for the engine bay, also you'd have problems with the front differential. No subaru's in the last good 15 years have been solely rwd. You would have to shell out the entire driving system. Good luck if you guys want to go ahead with it though. Just remember that an EJ is a horizontally opposed engine, and you'll have a hell of a time working with it if you actually could remove enough 'car' to plunk it in.

maybe tonight i'll take my ej20 and try to just size it up in the fb's engine bay. the transmission is the easy part. they sell spools for the center diff to convert to rwd on the subaru trans. then you could just take the front ring gear out to lose some rotating mass. i have a subaru and yes its kinda a pain to work on but provides lots of torque for a four cylinder.

After looking around on here...it looks like a V8 is the way to go, heh. I think I'll leave the EJ for my Legacy, and eventually get a V8 to put in the RX7. Although it would be interesting to try the EJ-RX7 swap....maybe some day!

The boxer is pretty wide..... it will be tight in the strut towers, if it fits at all.

Yeah, I went out and measured the one in my Subaru, and then measured the engine bay in the RX7. The EJ25 in my car is actually maybe an inch too wide to fit. I don't know how much smaller a 2.0L EJ series engine would be, but it might be small enough to fit.

naw the outside of the engine are pretty much the same size from the 1.8 to the 2.5 even the 3.0 6 cylinders are just as wide.

I'll mesure my buds extra EJ22 and the width of the strut towers on my 87

heh xD you know its funny, i was thinking of putting a 13B into my Subaru xD

get a custom made bell housing, and bolt it in place? xD

o saw an adapto plate to mate a 13B to subaru awhile back i figured use it bacwards. EJ on turbo 2 drivetrain in an FC. but clearance maybe the enemy

really? huh... i may be interested in that... do you know where you saw it?
i was thinking a TII swap... but more interestingly trying to stick a Cosmo RE maybe.
