strongest 5spd transmission?
 

hi, i am planning to swap my engine over to an FC3S chassis by next year once my mx6 is completly tuned, and run for at least this coming season for a little bit
its a 2.2 mazda 4cyl, 12v, turbo, nitrous, sds, etc, should make some decent power once completely tuned, i dont want to throw out any numbers and cause unneccesary discussion, so lets just say it will be making 350whp.

now, to me it doesnt matter whether its a gxl or tii, what i do care about, is if there was significant transmission differences between the fc models. which one is the strongest? i know for a fact that the fc transmissions bolt up to my f2 block with minor starter modification, so i would just like to know what people would suggest for a tranny that will be pushing some decent power.
did any models come specifically with 4.10-11 gears? were the rear ends stronger or weaker in any models? should i even bother with the stock fc transmissions? is there some other options out there with similar bell housings?
theres always cheap FC's around with blown 13b's with the rest of the car in good shape looking to be sold. let me know.

FWD engine bolt into a RWD transmission and chassis?
Somehow I don't think it's as easy as you think, or else I'd see more of them being done?

I don't even know if this is in the right section...maybe other engines?

mx6 engine into an FC for only 350whp?? hrmm, your car.
most RX7s had 4.10 rears, some 3.9, the GTUs with a 4.3. check www.mazdamark.com
you'd have the best luck (strength-wise, not sure about compatibility) with T2 trannies. people make well over 350whp on them, but torque is an issue as is abuse.
some FCs came with lsds, some didnt. many S4s having clutch and S5s viscous, but i cant give all the details (because i dont know). i actually have a rusty lsd i'll be selling. its for the n/a drivetrain, though. i think they're different; again, i'm not as knowledgable about all the parts and fitments as some people.

my question is to do with fc transmissions, not other engines
i am well aware of what it will take to put the f2t into an rwd chassis such as the fc3s. the F2T is the 2.2 engine more or less, that came in the mazda b series trucks like the b2200, which btw, is rwd obviously
the mx6 engines have been put into miata's using b2200 or rx7 drivetrains, and modifications required were nothing more then just motor mounts, oil pan shortening, cooling system routing, and pushing back some of the firewall to clear the distributor, which isnt required in my case because i am running coil packs, so the head should clear just barely in the fc chassis. i know a guy in BC who just finished swapping his F2T into a ae86 with just some motor mount work, and a b2200 tranny. i have money to throw at this if the time comes, and i rather not get too involved with the rotary, as i have already considered that route, and then decided to just go ahead with the platform i am familiar with.

torque being an issue is not a good thing... mildly modded i made nearly 300lb/ft with the F2T... with this setup it will be quite a bit more... stupid truck motors and their ungodly torque...
ugh, might have to get some fc on its last legs, and just find a b2200 setup to swap over, it might be more capable of handling the torque

i meant that in the sense that some engines make much more horsepower than torque and others make more torque than horsepower. i dont know the torque curve of your engine, but people have pushed over 400whp on their turbo FCs. some people have made 500whp (one of which i know of made about 399tq). that tranny shat out. i dont know the differences between the T2 trannies and B-series. i cant imagine that any of the old b-series trucks made much power, though, so i dont know why their tranny would be that adequate.
in short, i'm not sure of how much help i can be. T2 cars make power, though, and very few people have too many troubles that i hear of. 400+ whp isnt very uncommon from a modded T2.

im sure like most trannys, as long as you dont bang the gears, it will hold together, i guess i will give it a try, and probably buy some spare ones while im at it, lol! :D

TII tranny with a TII rear end and half shafts will be your best bet. Unless you want to go FD drivetrain. But thats un necessary.

Yeah, but most of the rotaries making 400+ hp make 240-275 lbs/ft torque... if you're making 400+ lbs/ft torque, you may start eating up TII trannies if you beat them up. A good fluid may help...

The TII drivetrains can handle 400hp fairly well if a stronger clutch and pressure plate are used. If you plan to drag race with slicks, then you may want to upgrade.

All of the US TII models came with a 4.10 LSD that was larger and stronger than the non-turbo differentials. Additionally, the TII models came with stronger transmissions, larger driveshafts, and larger halfshafts. Now do you see why you should get a TII? :)
