SR20DET swap write up... sort of...

I got a PM from another member about my swap. I figured my response was detailed enough to warrent it as a write up, not bolt by bolt detailed, but enough for him/you to get the idea and ask specific questions about something. So what follows is a cut & paste of my PM back to him. The last line goes for anyone that reads this too.

Thanks for the interest. I've wanted to do a write up but just never got around to it between laziness and other projects.

The engine and tranny are from the late model ('96) S13... not sure if you knew the S13 was still made in Japan along with the S14 for a while.

Front cross member is a S13 piece with holes drilled for the FB lower control arm mount... they're about 1 1/4" longer in than the S13's. I also welded plates to the engine mounts to move it back ~2". Everyone that's seen says it looks natural... shifter came out about exactly the same place as the stock FB and I'm using the stock boot with an old school Mazda shift knob.

Harness is a stock Silvia harness... I just had to figure out what wires I needed for a few things(about 15 loose wires max, allot of info online for it due to 510 and 240z swaps of the engine... and other cars)

Tranny mount is stock Nissan rubber sitting on a slightly modified FB tranny cross member. The Nissan mount is ~ 1" narrower than the FB x-member so I just had to section it.

Driveshaft is custom from the local driveline shop...any shop can do them. I just took the Nissan yoke and the FB pinion flange and told them how long I needed it and two days later I had my shaft... they got a new yoke and flange because they couldn't be sure of the condition of the originals and wouldn't do it with new pieces.

Conversion to fuel injection I used a FC pump assembly and fab'ed up a baffle fitted it to the FB tank by cutting out the original and welding in the FC piece with (of course) a walboro 255 pump.

Exhaust is 3" I did myself... PITA when you don't have a lift! The exhaust is the lowest part of the car because the SR's exhaust is on the driver’s side and I had to cross it over under the tranny so I couldn't fit the pre-muffler in the depression of the floor board. No rubs unless it's a mean ass speed bump though.

Intake is stock, just with a K/N filter.

Intercooler is an eBay special... came with knock-off GReddy BOV so I've been running that with no issues other than I still need to recalculate the BOV.

That's all I can think of off hand... I'd be happy to answer anything else if you think of other questions.

I second that. Need some pictures. Did you have any issues passing emissions with the sr20det?

could you inform us where you found your wiring information?

So this is in an FB? How much power are you pushing?
