sr20det swap

nom I know I might git flamed for this but was wondering who has done an sr20 swap in there fc. I've seen a couple of them out there. I blew my engine and since all I do is drift and beet the crap out of my car I figured I might want to get a engine that can handle being beat the crap out of because it seems to me the rotary and I don't agree very often.

FC3S_nataku 08-26-05 11:44 AM

its probably possible with some custom work, but im pretty sure you would fuck up the 50/50 ratio of the car, which would kill your driveing

RexRyder 08-26-05 11:48 AM

It's been done before, but with the money you spend on the swap, you might as well build up the 13b-??.

lnbrown5981 08-26-05 11:48 AM

sr20's are overrated, if you absolute must have a nissan engine you might want to get the rbtt.

bigdongsr94 08-26-05 11:54 AM

i doubt it would kill his driving, i used to be a honda guy only but by trying new cars/motors found i like a lot of them. i say do it if its just to beat up on anyway. I dont think the engines weight too much different do they? Even if they do you can move weight around if you think its a big seal

PoderRotativo 08-26-05 11:54 AM

Tony angelo from drift alliance had one in his fc went he started drifting I know some people here in NJ that can do that, but its a lot of money

theman4444 08-26-05 12:15 PM

I believe there is quite a weight difference between the two engines. I heard you can pull the 13b out with two men while sr20det would probably take a good lift. But can anyone give actual weights on both engines.

You might want to go to www.drifting.com/forums/ and ask someone there. Maybe Tony Angelo will tell you himself or Chris Forsberg? I went to the Pikes Peak Driftoff and Tony told me to get some rear stear eliminators. WHOOPS!

Fumi 08-26-05 12:17 PM

if you want to put a sr20 into something buy a nissan. the soul is in of the fc is the rotary, not some crazy piston engine.

rx-7 handle abuse no problem. was your car tuned properly that will blow a rotary fast

I think you mean, not having your car tuned properly will blow engines fast.

Do you understand that the car is from 1989 and was likely produced late '88. That means this car is over 15 years old. If this was the original engine how could you expect it to take abuse? Its over a decade old. Buy a new car if you don't want problems for a few years, even then most new cars have problems straight out of the box!

Rebuild the engine and i'm sure that will take abuse for a few years given you do everything that needs to be done, properly.

Actually it was Chris Forsberg's car when they did the swap...Tony later drove the same car with the SR20 swap. From what I've heard, it was a horrible pain in the ass to do the swap. Just swap an LS1 into your FC (if you don't want a rotary) and be done with it...way more torque (great for drifting) and they weigh about the same as a 13BT so it won't throw off your weight distribution.

Better yet, buy a 240...its a much better drift car anyway. ;)

RX7 RAGE 08-26-05 01:48 PM

drop an ls1 v8

REnder 08-26-05 01:52 PM

with the price of buying an sr20 and getting it swaped in you could rebuild your enigne and do some mods to keep it reliable or you could open acount and save the money so that when you do blow your engine again you will already have the money to fix it.

I've seen a couple of em done. Buddy of mine did it.

I equate it to the people jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge.

Watched a special on TV a while back about the few people who have survived the jump. They all agree that once you are past the point of no return, no, not half way down, but that one inch too far, they all thought the same thing:

"Oh my god... What have I done?"

You can check out TorqueCentral, a guy by the handle "Rage" has done this swap.

Why would you suggest an RB over the SR?

im doing a KA swap in my seven, u can see the flames of 5+ pages, we were gonna put sr20's but those arent good motors for drifting, PM me if u have any questions

That`s your choice and I respect that but different drivers prefer different types of powerbands. Many drifters, such as yourself, may prefer the instant throttle response of an NA motor while others do better with engines that hit higher up in the powerband. It doesn`t necessarily mean that one is definately better than the other. I just don`t agree with your statement about the SR not being good for drifting. It has proven itself many times over and there is a reason why the S13-15 is considered the quintessential drift vehicle.

Oh and yes I checked out your thread. Man did that turn nasty or what? Ego`s getting the better of everybody I think. Build yourself a solid KA and go have some fun. You shouldn`t care what me or anybody on a disscussion forum think about YOUR car.

Sean:)

Bodyshield 08-29-05 08:59 PM

thanks man thats like the most positive criticism i've ever heard, we arent gonna keep them NA, gonna be T'd and bout 475-500hp, but yeh man the car really does make the engine and drifter
