SR20DET swap?

i have an SR20DET engine that i was going to put in my nissan SE-R but decided just to mod the QR25 instead. anyone have any idea how much work would be involved in swapping the SR20DET into my 86 n/a?

I beleive another guy had a thread about that engine swap. Not sure though search for it you might find some info. My oppinion would be to kick your butt though for even putting a pistion engine in ther but she is yours later.

i think it would be kinda pointless.
a 13bT has more power potential than a SR20(stock internals) until you start getting into new internals.

i think a 13bT can handle about 400hp with stock internals. SR20 can handle aroudn 350 or so? (someone correct me on this)

PPC-Racing 06-02-03 01:19 AM

the sr20 can handle 12psi on stock parts from what I've read on the SE-R fourms. however your starting froma point lower then the starting point with a rotary, you have more power potential from a rotary then you do with the SR20.. if you look around most of the heathens that drop in wobblies, are using small blocks 5L + to make more power then what you can get from the rotary, at least to make it worthwhile..

I agree with Santiago tough

dude dont even think about it my friends of got sr20dets i hate the rattly things thats feels like your killing them when ya rev them. god damn chain driven rocker arm setup is poo. sell it and get a 13bt it will be cheaper to install. and it will resond to mods better

Initial D's FC from Panda Racing (I think that's right) has a sr20 in his FC... I believe his swap turned out super clean and was very happy with his finished product :)

if you do sell it and it doesnt cost to much I knwo of a few Datsun 510 guys who would love to get a hold of it tho.

the SE-R is front drive right? Then put it in the RX-7 for sure. Rear drive just feels (and is) so much better.

Initial D's FC? That's a cartoon. That whole show is based on drifting, which is fun, but definitely not the fastest way down the mountain.

eek se how high the engine is:eek: sorry not for me

evileagle 06-02-03 03:23 AM

Correct me if I'm wrong... but if you bought that SR20DET for a Sentra then that would imply that it's the BlueBird engine (turned sideways) and thus you would be shit outta luck (rediculously expensive install). Not to mention that it would also be made for an AWD car, I suppose you could convert it to FF, but who the hell wants a front wheel drive rx7?

zenjoe 06-12-03 10:03 AM

by the way, the sr20 will handle 20lbs of boost on stock internals. That goes for both the US spec sr20de and the jap spec sr20det. They will handle 400hp on stock internals.

Enjuko (sp??) racing put a big turbo and a stock sr20det, put some big injectors on it and boosted the thing to 21 lbs of boost. The result was 397hp and the wheels. The only parts that were changed were the turbo, manifold, injectors, MAP, and computer program. Oh yea, the turbo kit was $2800

That is a lot of power with such few mods.

Now, you can get that much hp easily with the 13bt, its just a matter of being different. Different is cool. I have a vw bug with a 12a rotary in it. I hear a lot of people talking smack about my car not being volkswagen powered all the time, but when people come up to the car and look at it, just the fact that it is different makes them appreciate the car. I have placed in several shows due the the engine conversion.

By the way, a FWD sr20det will be hell to get into your car. you are going to have to change the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, oil pan, and all the pipes and tubes just to get it to go in. I would suggest selling the engine, and getting a s13/s14/s15 RWD sr20det. It will be much more worth your time and monay.

Not everyone builds their cars for max hp.

Whoops, i almost forgot about the topic at hand...

I had to make my own motor mounts, and tranny mount, i moved the motor far back enough that the shifter fit into the stock location... i had to remove my heater though, i will replumb the one line around the motor before the winter hits ;) , got a driveshaft made, and my buddy handled the wiring. its running on a stock ecu. most important was the custom aluminum oil pan and oil pickup. the pickup is right in the front of the motor which is where our steering rack/subframe is, so its either a new subframe, and move the steering rack forward or back 4-6" or the custom oil setup. Dry sump would work too... its a lil costly.
