Rx-8 motor into FD?
Hey all, I'm relatively new with Rx7's and rotary engines, but has anyone ever done an RX-8 motor swap into an FD? Since the 13B is known for it's high maintanence and reliability problems under high boost pressure, I wonder if it's possible to still use the rx8's alleged "more reliable" motor? I know it seems like a downgrade, but is it possible?

More reliable??
Buahahahahhahahahahaha.......... |
Are Rx8's having reliability problems? My friends Rx8 hasnt had anything major happen to it and he seems to ream on it alot...

Like I said. I'm fairly new to rotary engines and the RX series, can anyone actually answer my question(s) without flaming me/the idea?

Non-flaming answer:
Possible? Sure, anything is possible. It's going to cost a lot of money to get all of the systems playing happily however, and in the end you'll have less power potential. The Renesis is not likely to prove any more reliable at anything other then stock power levels then the 13BREW did. If you're looking to make it more reliable and still have power potential, then an LS1 or other V8 swap is likely your best ticket. Beyond that, it's best of luck to you with the spinning doritos. |
The Long Term Test RX-8 (Car abd Driver) did not seem to fare too well.

Hmm.. yea I've seen that option in other posts... but I want a rotary heart for my future rx7... Maybe I'll just focus on suspension tuning and just maintain the stock 13B. |
Argh...
That is all. |
Not flaming. HUGE WASTE OF MONEY. If you want a rotor and want to spend that kind of cash to make it work, go with the 20B. You at least have some power potential there. Doesn't the Renesis make less power than the 13BREW?

Buy an RX8

:shrugs: just throwing ideas out there

The Renesis doesnt put down to the wheels NEARLY what a 13BREW does, stock vs stock. While a FD has a lighther chassis and youd lose the weight of the turbo crap... the power loss would totally immasculate the car. What, 170-180 whp if youre lucky? I hear canzoomer chips can help some, but other than that you gotta wait until porting the renesis is worked out.
If you want a powerful FD your options basically as follows: turbo mods (probably the easiest, but youre gonna need to work on the cooling and fuel system too) 3rotor, usually w/ turbo ($$$$, availability, but more potential, and more reliability at the same power level as a 13b-rew) V8 (you'll piss off purists and hear stupid comments about the soul, handling, and weight distribution of the car that actually ARENT changed, but make tons of power easily and get better gas mileage :bigthumb: ) So... if you wanna take a step up in power youre gonna have to take a step back with your engine, unless you opt for a LS1 ;) |
What about an all motor triple rotor motor? and what about an turbo triple rotary. Are there really much less reliability problems with the 20b conversion? I'm really reluctant to invest into a turbo rotary.

Basically, a 3 rotor will likely last longer under high power conditions then a 2 rotor, N/A or turbo. Reliable on a rotary is a relevant term. I'd expect a poll of 2 rotors with 400+ RWHP and ~30K miles or more would be depressing. A 3 rotor engine is damned heavy and expensive for your power return. It's more of a way for those truly stuck on triangles to get actual power out of their cars without weekly rebuilds (they become monthly instead). On a side note, maybe I'll get some more bad feedback for this post. I seem to be racking it up with aplumb as of late. I guess shooting down some of the rotor head gods at their own game does that. :bigthumb: |
