RB26 in a RHD FD?

i currently drive an imported R32 GTR. in september i have a new engine coming in for it, from Mine's in japan. RB26 in there now is in perfect condition, and i was thinking of putting it in a Miata, but ive always wanted an FD but im intimidated by rotaries.

im going to visit the Mine's shop in japan when they start on my engine, and i might buy a 91 or 92 FD rx7 when im there.

now to my question: has anyone successfully put an RB26 in an FD? ive seen 2J's and SR20s. im mostly concerned about firewall and tranny-tunnel fitment.

im going to have to get an RB25 tranny for this. also a custom driveshaft. the parts and work is doable, im just wondering if anyone has tried and had fitment problems.

cheers

btw, the other option im thinking of, is buying an RX8 with a blown engine, and using that platform. (might be cheaper, and i love the 8)

I'm not a big fan of non rotary engines in FDs but that sounds kind of cool. atleast its not an LS1

I'd try posting your question in the "Other Engine Conversions." ( https://www.rx7club.com/other-engine-conversions-non-v-8-118/ )

You'll get a much better responce there!

Yeah, an LS1 would be a horrible idea. Jackass.

An RB would be cool, though it's height would make it a PITA to install. Subframe and subframe height would most likely need to be adjusted, rack likely need moved, and hood would still probably be compromised. The height/weight of the engine would probably be less then optimal as well, but the HP ability is certainly there. I'm a big R32 GTR fan myself, slick cars.

You can do anything to a car, just depends on how much you want to pay. Since you are having Mine's build you an engine,...... i dont think you have to worry about putting the RB26 in a FD.

I dont know of anyone who has done that before but, i think it is an interesting idea. If you are going to drop the skyline engine in a FD, go the whole way and put the RB26DETT with the four wheel drivetrain as well. A 4-wheel drive FD would get you a cover on any magazine and the envy of most everyone here!

You may want to contact these guys, they have done 2JZGTE into FD conversions, that motor and the RB26 should be pretty similar. Good luck!

i saw a tv show doing a section on this rally event there was a 4 wheel drive FD. it just shot by the camara and it had in a caption 4 wheel drive FD3S and the power output. i remember very little about the show but this was late 90's when i saw it. it was VR, i recall it was pretty badass seeing an FD haul ass on dirt.

but RB26 in an FD would be pretty cool!!! talk about $$$$$ though

what I meant was that a rb26 is different. I've seen lots of threads on LS1s but non on rb26.

thanks for the replys, didnt really answer my question though.

im probably going to do it in an RX8, i have the oppertunity to buy a hydrolocked RX8 for 10k.

a friend of mine hydrolocked his RX8 last summer, and hes currently doing an SR20 into his. the engine is physically sitting in the enginebay, but its far from running. ill be able to rely on him for fitment info.
