How about some engine specs...
What size turbo, injectors, cam, ect. And are you useing alcohol? |
Nice job.
I've been in gnx7's old car and was mighty impressed. These are wickedly fast combos. |
How about some engine specs... What size turbo, injectors, cam, ect. And are you useing alcohol? TRW forged pistons, factory crank and rods 204/218 edelbrock cam, webber racing "full race" iron 8445 heads. 87 FI manifold with 55lb injectors. 255 walbro pump Te45A turbo. Running a DIY Alcohol injection kit with Devils own progressive controller. |
Whoa. Impressive, you got that to fit under a stock TII hood? AWESOME!!!
|
Did you make your own downpipe, or did one from the "buick" catelog fit? Also, what did you do for your shifter... I'm using a 200r4 in my FC and got the stock mazda shifter to work pretty well.
And how do you like your alky setup? I'm just about to put one on my 86t-type... |

And how do you like your alky setup? I'm just about to put one on my 86t-type... Also using the 2004r .I'm using the factory mazda auto shifter. With a custom cable ( I believe it was for a vega with a th350. With this cable and linkage setup I can't bring the car into 1st gear. Once I get my rear end installed I plan on leaving the car in drive when racing at the track anyway. I think methanol injection is by far the best performance investment I've ever bought for any turbo car period. With the previous setup I would get detonation at around 16-18lbs on 93 octane 2 18* timing. Now I use 91 octane and run 26lbs+ of boost and 22* timing. It's awesome. Although using water, ethanol, denatured alcohol etc. I could not run as much timing or boost. Methanol is where it's at! |
So are those (i.e. water/alcohol, methanol...) all the same basic kit, and then you just add whatever cools things down the best, or do you have to get a methanol specific kit?
And was building your own pretty straight forward? |
Not that this info belongs in this post but...yes.
If you know what your doing it is pretty simple. Do google search on DIY alcohol injection. There is a ton of info out there. Your pump should be compatible with methanol. All shurflo pumps are that is the "industry standard" for methanol. Devils own alcohol injection is one of the cheapest and still good quality IMO. Good luck. |
hpw bout a little info on the wiring

Well got her tuned in last night blasted off an 11.3 @130+ in the 1/4. That run took my transmission out but man did it feel good!

That is a mid 10 second car for sure. Congrats on finally getting it to work to its max potential. It has been a good buildup to follow.
Was that time/mph on 91 octane and methanol? As Andrew said that car is flyin'. |
what were you racing a bicycle? lol
Sweet build man...you certainly know what you're doing. |
your tempting me..i have an fb in my backyard thats a coworkers that im considering buying and putting a gn motor in it..
|
Yes the 131 pass was good old 91 octane with a m15 meth injection nozzle @ 120psi.
I wish I would have put my motor in the FB i have instead. They area easier to swap a solid rear into and quite a bit lighter! I'd go for it if I were you! |
Track officials finally caught on and noticed this little rx-7 was putting up some low numbers! After about 5 10.6-10.7 passes @ 127ish They finally kicked me out at the end of last season for not having a cage...
So I've been busy... Been rough getting laid off at cessna and all, but I had already started on this so it needed to be finished! Made up a cardboard template and had the loop mandrel bent. Rese of the pieces were straight. ($110 total for pipe and bends) I'd say all in all I've got about $200 total wrapped up in the cage. Went to my uncles to use his fancy tig welder. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b1...ic012609_1.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b1...ic013109_1.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b1...7/feb09015.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b1...7/feb09016.jpg Took advantage of the nice tig welder and notched out my trans mount so I have enough room to finally run some decent exhaust. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b1...7/feb09001.jpg Thats it for now.... Still plan to swap out the 3.27 gears for some 2.73's. Hoping to load up the turbo even more for some better 1/8th miles times. Then Tint the windows, and install some coil overs. If I can find a decent poundage spring to install. The kit came with unknown springs. Unemployment checks are suppose to be used to build race cars right? :haha: |
sick build! i have always thought a turbo v6 would be a cool build!

New personal best time and MPH for me... And I have video footage of the some wheelie action. Unfortunately I did not get good footage of the better wheelie I did. I'll post up video soon. The car drives hard to the left when both wheels come up though. Not sure what that's all about. :dunno: Good feeling to getup on 2 wheels and drive home though.
Anyway ran a 10.06 and Best mph of 135.54. I dropped about 50lbs off the car last night. Rear bumper and supports, hatch struts, exhaust heat shielding and tow hooks, and swapped in a 14lb PC680 battery in place of my 30lb red top optima. Few more weight reduction plans in the future and some 90/10's on order. I want 9's on this little 6 before swapping the LS motor! :drive: https://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b...X7/1355mph.jpg https://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b...NX7/1006et.jpg |
very cool swap!
