Natey 02-18-08 12:39 PM

Grand National is one that's been done successfully.

even a turbo'd Miata motor with an FC turbo tranny would be a fun motor in an FC.
its hard to put that power down in a Miata even with a widebody that would fit 245s out back but the FC can fit 275s without any mods besides a lip rolling.

all hail the FC chassis!

the SR20 is nice because its all aluminum and fairly inexpensive. I'd rather have a boosted F20C because of the wonderful S2000 tranny but that is such an expensive setup that the LS1 T56 setups look very promising and dont weigh much more than the 4banger turbo setups and the LS1 is so much easier to work on and less expensive to build and so easy to maintain and its longevity is amazing.

Viper motor!!! Hell with this V8 stuff lets get more pistons in there :). Hehe

On a serious note RB26 would be pretty sweet. Now extra points for the person that keep the AWD system as well!!

not for awd drifting haha but looking for an inexpsenive motor to put down some power and the swap wouldnt be to expesive to get down id like be spend around 2200 maybe alittle more for the compete motor swap also. i have 13b in it right now n/a but wondering if it would be worth fixing that up to drift or produce enough power? cost effective?

Josh18_2k 02-24-08 07:38 PM

i think the ford 2.3T can be done super cheap. the engines arent really worth anything and they can take a ton of abuse (something like 30psi on stock internals)

J.MurdaFCs3 02-25-08 09:39 AM

what really is required o make a n/a 13b into a turbo. is it really worth getting a 13bt block and starting from that?

owen is fat 02-25-08 10:01 AM

a lot.
yes.

besides the mechanical requirements you need a lot of wiring and other crap.

innesxsenni 02-25-08 10:25 AM

30 psi stock internals? thats crazy id like to see that! if i was to do the 13bt how much do u think im looking at i saw the motor and tran for like 1200 if it just fits right in i can do the instal my self but if there fitment problems i will have to take it some where also do i have to get a rear diff?

Brismo7 02-25-08 11:23 AM

dude, innesxsenni.

Give it up man. If you dont want read "million different pages about it and dont want to read through them" then this swap isnt for you. Hell, this car isnt for you.

Do yourself and the rest of us a favor and just start reading. all this info is already out there, you just have to feed it to your brain. quit being a lazy SOB.

innesxsenni 02-25-08 01:42 PM

relax buddy not that serious

Brismo7 02-25-08 02:56 PM

i'm just saying, dont expect everyone to spoon feed you information. If your serious about swapping a turbo motor in, go to the classifieds and see how much the engines are going for.

If you cant even do that, your just window shopper, prolly with no money, and your wasting other peoples time.

SPEED_NYC 02-25-08 09:13 PM

this section is for OTHER engine swaps guys there is lots of info on na to turbo 13b swaps out there. or post your question in the correct section

innesxsenni 02-26-08 11:38 AM

the reason why i posted this in the first place was to see what other engines are out there beside the norm. and i do have the money im just waiting and not to rush into anything to fast and it not be what i was looking for. im trying to narrow it down. and ive read the n.a forums, same with the turbo 13bt thats not why im here.

Brismo7 02-27-08 11:24 AM

For sure, sorry i just get hot and bothered by some of the post on this god damn forum sometimes.

My opinion: The LS swap is so well documented, it is going to be the easiest swap. i can almost argue that its prolly easier than swapping a rotary. There are multiple soltions for any given problem.

I would however like to see a more variety of swapped Rx7s. as for other swaps, i know people have swapped in 3.0 & 3.5L nissan VG and VQ motors. i know of one guy that swapped in a newer maxima engine, mated to a rwd nissan transmission.

pretty much if you can think it, you can swap it in if you have the talent to do so.

innesxsenni 02-27-08 12:06 PM

ya its not that big of deal just looking to see whats out there. out curiousity do know what the ford 2.3 turbo comes out of. my buddy was telling me out of an old mustang. is that true?

Brismo7 02-27-08 12:46 PM

yes they are in 4 cylinder mustangs. there is also the turbo mustangs that have the 2.3T.

they are also in merkur's. the merkur's come turbo stock also. the 2.3 is fantastic Engine. super cheap, and can be quite powerful with minimal mods. You can even swap on a DOHC volvo head for even more potential. (and these things can easily make 400hp on the stock head)

2.3 is a GREAT engine. Granny's speed shop sells a conversion kit for the engine.

my only suggestion though, get a turbo motor or dont bother. just my opinion though.

innesxsenni 02-27-08 05:06 PM

ya thats what im going for i was looking around to find that engine didnt come up and the ones that did we kinda pricey than what i thought 1500? that didnt sounds right

rhaegar13 07-06-11 12:32 PM

so is the ls1 the best route for a swap? i just bought an 88 rx7 and i'm trying to figure out if i should keep the stock Turbo 2 or swap for something else

Pretty much yes. The LSx platform is the defacto choice for swappers for a reason. The guys rocking v8's tend to be free thinkers (you have to be in order to put up with being called a heretic from here forward ). That said, it really says something when a varied group of folks all independantly sit down to weight the pros and cons and the vast majority of people come by and large to a single conclusion.

A heads and cam ls1 swap will make 430 whp easily. They fit well, they're light, and they're realiable (at least once you add an accusump for track duty). It's definitely not the only route to go fast, but it's still a damn good one. I see no reason to bother with smaller motors and/or "abnormal" swaps.

My car makes 3x the HP, has 4x the displacement, and gets better mileage than the rotary that came out of it. I've never met ANYONE who wasn't impressed at how well it fits in there.

At the end of the day it's your car and all anyone can offer you are opinions.

The one that everyone forgets is the 4g63. If you find the right Mazda B2600 truck bellhousing, you can swap it onto the TII tranny and a 4g63 wideblock will bolt right up. Then you need to make some motor mounts, route the water piping, change the intake manifold (it's not hard to buy an aftermarket manifold, which you'll want anyway, and order it with the TB hole on the other side), hook up a throttle cable, and fab some exhaust piping. A stock long block might run you $1600, and will take all the boost you want to throw at it, all day long. I believe coltboostin even built a 2.3L stroker turbo engine pushing around 400 whp for about 5 grand total, car included.
