New 3.8 turbo motor in....

It's alive!

I used my old piping and IC setup just to get the engine running.

The new engine has race heads, cam, and forged pistons. Other than that it's pretty much the same. I'm swapping over to a new huge FMIC and better piping. As well as a larger turbo for this race season.

The old setup bested at 11.5x's before a blown oil cooler line sent my engine packing. :(

New setup....

Old motor mounts. These are for sale cheap if anyone would like them. They bolt in place and are a solid mount. ($50??)

I switched over to this setup. Which uses the buick factory rubber mounts.

had to lengthen the steering rod and move teh steering rack fwd about 2 inches, the motor sits alot lower now and the factory hood will clear!

Couldn't ask for a cheaper more forgiving motor! I ran 26psi of boost on a te-61 turbo for 3 years! The motor was completely stock never opened. All original no cam no HG etc... I was out cruising and one of the cheezy hose clamps I had on my oil cooler popped off. I lost oil pressure and didn't notice until it was to late. :(

I had an alcohol injection kit bigger injectors a chip FMIC and exhaust and ran 11's all day! Also getting aorund 26mpg!

this guy did his really nicely lots of good info there! I'm actually using his old motor mounts.

if u put the 4.2 stroker kit on that, you'd be running 10's. i found a site where all they did was put that stroker kit and a 150 shot of nitrus on ran 9's or 10's i cant remember. but good job dude.

If I just had the right gears in it it would have ran 10's with the old setup. I was trapping 123! But I was shifting into OD at the 1/8th. I need some good 3.27's instead of this 4.10 crap!

zoomman 03-02-07 06:03 PM

ya the 410's are good for gettin somewhere in a hurry for more torquey engines.. but with that set up your up for more top end, so ya 3.27's would definatly get your top end going so you can get that ET a lil better.

I used some different motor mounts on my old setup. They used the factory steering rod. A friend from turbobuicks.com had fabbed up some really nice mounts and custom fabricated the extended steering arm 2" and also relocated the steering rack mounts 2" forward. (misred.com) is his sight. He's an awesome fabricator!
He's got a 3rd gen with a 4.1 turbo in it now.

And yes factory ECU and harness. Every things for sale for a price! Don't be jealous buy it!

I really want to get to work on another swap in my 1st gen. 2600 lbs is just to heavy. :)

getting closer!

So here she is in all her glory.

Just need to order the flex intake piping so I can route the air intake to the driver side corner to get the stocker hood on. :D

32mm WG with atmosphere dump.

Close to finished product!

Just needs exhaust. Going with 3" to a Y then dual 2.5 pipes out the back. Then a cage. And a few other minor things...

Possibly a new rear end.....
