So, as I am sitting at home, completly idle, I was wondering:

FD/FC: putting a Evo (2004+) motor in it, is it possible? I know, enough money, engineering, etc. anything is possible. But I was wondering if it can be made to work with rwd and what transmission would be used?

What other turbo 4 bangers out there, besides the sr20/ka motors?

I am not writing this as if I plan on doing it, I am just wondering.

i've been interested in the same myself. instead of the evo motor i was interested in the celica all trac turbo or gt-four engine. unfortunately i've had no posts on my thread yet so either people hate the idea or no one has heard of it yet. lets hope some information is let known to us sometime soon.

The problem is with threads like this is that you're not going to get any solid answers unless someone has actually done it.

With the EVO IV and up, the 4g63 engine was rotated 180 degrees and spins backwards. So aside from a "normal" 4g63 swap, you'd have to take that into account.

Now the 4g63 comes in both wideblock and narrowblock forms, at least the old ones did. The old wideblock (which was mostly in some trucks) matches the bolt pattern of a few Mazda B2600 engines. Thus, all you really need to do is swap the B2600 bellhousing onto a TII tranny and you're good to go. Like I said though, the EVO engine is facing the opposite direction, so I have no idea whether or not you could find a bellhousing to bolt up to the engine. You'd likely have to get an adapter made.

The fact that you have no desire to actually carry out this idea and are "just wondering" about it will likely mean that not many people are going to take the time to bother responding. Aside from someone who might actually be attempting to put this engine into that car (which right now, it's likely there isn't anyone attempting that), any other information is just going to be speculation or the result of web searching, so my question is why can't you do that yourself?

Do you really expect someone to explain it all to you since you were "just wondering?" If you're really that interested, then you can do your own research.

As far as other turbo 4-bangers, there's the 3S-GTE that toyo7 mentioned, the Ford 2.3T, and scores of other engines (like the VW 1.8t) that have been around for a while. What would you like to know about them? They're probably all going to give the same amount of trouble and have the same problems with completing the swap as any 4-cylinder. Again, I'm left wondering why you need other people to tell you what 4-cylinder turbos are out there when a simple Google search would tell you anything you want to know.

If you're going to try to build an EVO-X7, you might as well buy a damaged EVO and drop the RX7 body on top of that chassis, and adjust the drivetrain as necessary.

Otherwise, an adapter plate and TII or any other tranny would work fine, if you had the money for it.

I don't understand *why* anyone would *want* to replace the rotary with this engine?

Seems to me that before finding out how, it would be important to describe the benefit.

I'm sure that with enough benefit, people's interest would peak to the point of more participation.

If you're modifying the engine at all, there's absolutely no benefit to using an EVO engine over a regular 4g63, so it'd be pretty pointless to attempt. The 4g63 will go in a hell of a lot easier, since the parts are already there (B2600 bellhousing, Starion flywheel, etc.). To use an EVO 4g63, you'd be reinventing the wheel for no reason at all.
