Miata's BP engine on a RX7 FC

Hi

A friend can put on a rx7 FC a miata's 1.8 BP engine. And I don't know if is possible. Can anyone tell me if is possible, and what's the problems to do the conversion.

regards

That sentence hurt my brain a little. I suppose its possible. I don't know anything about Miatas, but I assume it would be a lot of custom fabrication and wiring work. Anythings possible with enough time and money, but in the end you gotta wonder if it's worth while. I remember hearing or reading somewhere that the Miata actually has less horsepower than the FC. Then you have the purist argument that you are taking the heart and soul out of the RX7, which is my stand on the subject. I don't know. Someone else will chime in, I'm sure.

In short, it's probably possible, but most likely isn't a simple drop in and go.

Not really a good swap. Miata's put down about 105HP stock. 13B N/A's put down around 140-160 on stock ports. You put that in a FC and your going to cry.

most miata owners do the opposite. definitely not worth it IMO.

The 1.8L in the MX-5 Miata has about 131hp, so stock vs. stock you're going backwards.

Why are you considering the swap? I don't know what the situation is like in Portugal in regards to rotary mechanics or parts and whether that has anything to do with it. But considering you have other RX-7's, you seem to know enough and are just trying something new.

Off-topic...

I've only seen three RX-7's in Portugal while on vacation (I'm Portuguese) - how's the rotary scene there? Where abouts are you over there?

Tchau!

As much as I enjoy seeing interesting swaps in any car, doing a swap and coming out with something slower than stock is never a good thing, so i guess we would need a little more background info on why you or your friend wants to do it. I could see if you have a rx7 with a bad motor and happen to have a wrecked miata with a good motor it would make sense.

Well anyway, yes it is possible. The rx7 engine bay an trans tunnel is very accepting of other motors so it should be as easy as any other motor swap.

In Portugal don't exist many rx7 because the mechanics have fear the wankel engine. I have some rx7, and I like very much this type of engine. Repair here is very expensive. I have repare one engine at the moment, and buy all the parts in US.

My friend was thinking in this swap, because have one FC without engine (any part), and at the moment I can't find yet a engine for there. He have a BP engine, and can put 200RWHP with that.

depending on fitment cost and the cost of turbo-charging the miata motor you could come out with a good amount of power from that swap
