miata power/drive train in fc?

hey guys!!

just curious... do you guys think it's "reasonably possible" to put a miata power and drive train in a fc?

hehehe.. thanks!!

Power/drivetrain? As in the engine too? Sure it's possible (with enough money), but why?

I believe the tranny gear set is interchangable, giving a closer ratio a lower final drive I believe. And the rear diffs are swappable if you want the Torsen. But the motor? For what it'd cost to do that, it'd be totally impractical, do a TII swap if you have an N/A or something like that.

Edit: Oh, and there's one more option....

Buy the Miata. :p:

i know everything is possible, that's why i asked if it is "reasonably possible." :)
and please... don't ask why... just think that i'm curious.....

so only the gears are interchangable huh?
but not the tranny housing and diff housing?

The miata has a little different set-up in the rear. It's similar, but how it mounts is different. They have a set-up similar to an FD, where the diff mounts to a sort of I-beam in the back. Ask rxmfn7, he's taken a torsen out of a miata and put it in his FC...so he knows exactly how the miata looks underneath.

The miata rear end is very similar to that of an FC, but with a few differences what would make it difficult to install. 1st, the miata uses a short pinion, while the FC uses a longer one. This can be overcome by having a custon driveshaft made. 2nd, the two side diff mounts are in a different position on the miata, they angle outward, while the FCs are straight. I belive it is possible to mate a miata diff housing to an FC "hoghead" but again the question is why would you want to? The Rx-7 diff is much stronger than the miata one, many miata guys upgrade to an FC rear end when they start blowing theirs out.
About the tranny, I belive it is just the gearsets that is interchangeable, but it may be the entire center section. You may be able to put a FC tailhousing and bell housing onto the Miata center. Id contact pineapple racing about this, as they build FC trannys with miata gearing.

Why would you use the Miata powertrain when the Daewoo Lanos' is available?
