LNF 2.0L Ecotec Turbo I-4

I'm sure there are a few good reasons as to why no one has attempted this yet, but I've been throwing the idea around.

I think this would make for a pretty sweet swap.

I can't find much information on the pickup and how much the transmission could handle, but it's turbocharged direct injected (redubbed Spark Ignition Direct Injection) Ecotec was introduced in the 2007 Solstice GXP.
Displacement is 2.0 L (1998 cc) with an 86 mm (3.38 in) bore and stroke. Compression is 9.2:1, delivering 260 hp (194 kW) @ 5300 rpm and 260 ft·lb (353 N·m) of torque @ 2500 - 5250 rpm

A few bolt-ons would push this in the +300HP which isn't all that bad.

Any thoughts? Anyone attempted this yet?

There's an auto FD with a blown motor not far from my house and I've been thinking about picking it up for such project :)

its expensive. those arent readily available engines, if you're going to do that much custom work and spend that nuch money why not make it worth your time and do an lsx engine? 300hp is a joke in an RX-7, its not worth swapping the engine for 50hp over stock.

tecknix 04-07-08 10:27 PM

Yeah LSx has been on my short list of swap - I was just wondering if something in the 4banger had been done.
The engine puts out quite a good amount of power and if it was an easy swap like the lsx, than it was worth looking into.

Since the car is brand new (a year old or so..) it'll definitely going to be hard to find the engine at a fair price - Sometimes I wish I knew more junkyard people so I could 'experiment' ;)

Thanks for the quick reply

idk, i kinda like the idea. give it a few years, im sure they will be cheap and somewhat easy to find. the 2.2. eco has been around so yea.

tecknix 04-07-08 10:49 PM

yeah but the 2.2 and 2.4 aren't as sweet as this stock boosted one :P

It's got a bunch of forge internals and some oil jet piston coolers!

Whizbang 04-07-08 11:07 PM

but its essentially the same as the supercharged versions i'd assume?

Josh18_2k 04-08-08 12:29 AM

those ecotecs are kickin ass in drag racing. when they become more available (cheap..) they should make another viable candidate.

tecknix 04-08-08 12:57 AM

yup very close to the 2.2 supercharged - except they redesigned it a bit and put better components in it :)

gmblogs has a bunch of tech stuff on them - I may be on a mission to find one and see how hard it would be to drop it in! we'll see what comes around with tax return. lol

AXMDR787BOY 04-08-08 11:29 AM

Why has it never been done?

1)Too expensive for the output. Anyone that is going to swap has a couple things in mind. One of them is cost/benefit. This motor isn't worth it.

2)Pointless. Kind of leads to 1. Barely makes more power stock than the 13B.

3)hard to come by. There aren't many wrecked cars out there.

2007 ZX-10R 04-08-08 11:55 AM

I've read that engine can support about 400-500 hp stock

Bringing this back

My buddy has a solstice with an upgraded new borg warner turbo, cant remember the type or specs

hes pushing 430 whp and 450 wtq, and gets 33 mpg highway cruising at 65, like 24 city

I think thats pretty amazing, I know the LS1 gets great mpg, stock, not sure what its like when you mod it

also not sure what the modification is required to get the eco engine in

I'd like to think easier cause its smaller but I'm not sure fully sure
