Ka24de
this is a stupid idea and i will get flamed but it's actually a good idea. while prepareing the everything to be setup don't you wanna drive your car around, well the KA is the solution. it's cheap and since the sr fit, y can't the KA? i need your $02. also would this be a simple swap or would i rather wait?
|
anyone?
|
Wait.... I'm confused!
So your wanting to swap in a motor into your car... while your doing a different motor swap to the same car??? If so why would you do that? Thats just a huge waste of money, money that could be used in the motor swap that your trying to do.... And I just search on this engine... Why would you want a twin cam, 4 banger? If you want something just to drive around stick the rotary back in it... Or whatever the stock engine is. But I'm still realy confused on what your goals with this are. |
okay... to make more sense, i bought this car from a friend and like most rotary this one is useless. so while i'm trying to save for a ls1(4-6k for total swap) i want to enjoy the car. so since i can get a ka for cheap and the sr has been done, i thought this might work?
|
so you want to fab up a subframe, tranny mount, driveshaft, wiring etc for a 155 hp pos truck motor? do you realize how much time and money you would be throwing away as none of these custom parts will be of any use when you get an ls1. also if you are only planning on spending 4-6k for the total swap, you are in for a rude awakening.
|
OK, will assume the LS1 swap will happen later...
Anyways, why wouldn't you just go to a junk yard, or someplace like that, and just get an NA rotary engine. There pretty cheap, and you will get to drive the car around. And rotary's aren't worthless! I would take a rotary over a 4 banger ANY day! |

Seriously though, that's a lot of work considering you'll be tearing it all out... maybe if you were doing an SR20DET later on or the like, with simliar mounts to that POS KA. |
okay, besides the ka and n/a rotary what kind of cheaper engines can fit the 3rd gen.
|
Wait.... You were going to put that KA thing into a 3rd gen?
awwwwww.... that's just wrong! Put like a 1JZ/2JZ, 20B, something better than a 4 banger/V8! And why do people always throw out that, "what will fit" crap? Almost anything you can dream of can put fit in there. Within reason, not like a 400 Big cam cummins engine... You know from a 540 Hemi on down... If you've got the time, tools, and money. It can be done! Do something good if it is a 3rd gen! Get like a merlin 540 Hemi crate engine, and blow it with an 8/71. Don't put a little itsy bitsy pussy 4 banger in it. The stock 3rd gen motor is soooo much better than that KA heap of shit! |
hey I got beef for who ever bags on the Ka24de engine that comes stock in the Nissan 240 b.c I am going to do that swap and if you belive me or not it has just as much potential as that Sr20de....I was lookin at a few dyno sheets online and they said a turbo kit running 12 psi on stock internals could easily pull 12's so do the ka man and leave the ls1 out ..... keep it jap..or you could go wtih the 13b-rew peace out oh yeah I am in love with the rotary I am buying another Na rx to do teh swapp... the rotary will never leave my site
|
don't unleash the beef ,chief! if you love the rotary so much, why swapp it out? are you going to bring it in the crib so it never leaves your site? peace out.....

hey I am not going to swap out my rotary for the Ka24de...I am going to buy another RX for the swap.... and put a ka-det engine in it..... so peace....

lets see the ka for one is 2.4 liters and the sr20 is a 2.0... the ka has strong internals... and with 14 psi on stock internals the ka will launch you into the 12's there is no way in hell the sr2o could do that....
|
the KA has a huge stroke compared to the SR (which isn't that amazing imo), the KA has flat combustion chambers and a shitty valle angle, the KA is iron, the KA has a cast (iirc) crank, the KA has hideously small ports...

Originally posted by fstrnyou huge stroke = more torque iron blocks can handle more (same reason new cobras are iron block) small ports..... that's what more boost is for 3 of my friends have done SR swaps in the last 4 months and only one of them is running right. small ports = lower efficiancy, poor response Let me guess... They all have junkyard redtops that were never rebuilt... 1revn7 said 14PSI on a stock KA? Out of what? A T25? A 14B? That motor will not last long on 14PSI out of anything bigger than T3 if can even handle 14PSI of boost. I know the stock fuel system can't keep up. A Walbro pump is a must. |
14 psi on a stock KA? I know, and that's nothing special.
Take a look at what stock SR20's will handle. The head design is poor on the KA for performance. I'm not even going to get into piston speed (feet per second) and how it affects the engine in terms of power production, reliability, wear and tear, heat, etc. Just because 75% of your friends who attemp engine swaps do not have the mechanical ability to do them properly does not mean that it is a bad engine or poor conversion choice. |
my friend's friend put a KA into a Dodge ram and it works 1000 time better than the stock cummins! stupid american engines!
