Info on 1jz-gte swap in rx7 third gen

hello everyone,

i have been a member on this forum since a long time, and it has been an immense help on the various projects that me and my friends have done.

To cut to the point i have read through the limited info on the 1jz-gte swap into a rx7 third gen provided here and on other forums.

I still have some questions which if you all could help me with, i can think of getting started on this swap.

1) Since i adore the rotary engine, i would like this swap to be reversible in case i want to swap the 13b back in. Is that possible or the custom fabrication will cut down the engine bay/ frame.

2) There is a kit available from Tech2/2jzswap.com, the price is not listed but i will be putting in an email to them as we speak, is that a feasible option or just do a custom fabrication ?

3) The 1jz-gte with W154 tranny mate with the rear differential of a rx7? what is the realibility of this setup when putting out say 400rwhp ?

4) Driveablity and control, will the car be driveable in a straight line drag?

Would appreciate any answers that you all can put forward.

Regards,

Umer

i mailed tech2 motorsports to ask about the 2jz swap kit for FD3S, the price is $2500 for the kit.

its a bit steep in my opinion.

anyone done a custom fabrication and is willing to share the info ?

The mounts and location for the 1JZ should be virtually the same as the 2JZ, the kit will work. Good transmission choice, but I think as far as custom fabrication you should research putting one of the Supra rears equipped with the Torsen LSD in the car. That would be a killer rear that would help your car launch like an absolute dream.

okey so the kit is a good investment then, custom fabrication is a pain considering the limited knowledge available.

i had one more concern which i have mailed to tech2 motorsport, which was that my rx7 is a jap-spec RHD, and most probably this kit is designed for a us-spec LHD car.

and about the supra rear, that would be difficult coz where i live i would be lucky to source a 1jz let alone a complete rear, but still i will keep a lookout for anything of this sort, thanks.

any idea on how the i get the wiring done once i'm done with the fitting the engine? i've heard that the instrument cluster has to be rewired, possibly change all the gauges cos it won't work otherwise.

thanks!

Just put in aftermarket gauges for the most painless experience.

For the rear end, you're better off running the Cobra 8.8 IRS...the Supra TT rear end is VERY difficult to find, and the final drive ratio is not optimal with the R154, especially if you manage to find a 6-speed TT rear end.

$2500 for a 1JZ/2JZ kit? Ouch...that makes a LSx swap more attractive unless you're in love with the 1JZ...great motor (I've got one in my '95 Lexus SC300) but I wouldn't spend that for a kit.

The 8.8" rear is also going to be easier to mount as there is a kit available from Grannys to put that in the RX-7, whereas that Supra TT rear is going to cost you big money and require some creative fabrication. The kit from Grannys is like $2300 including a brand new 8.8" rear and all the parts to bolt it in, you'd be lucky just to find the Supra rear at that price.

Isn't that what I just said? Funny that you're all for the 8.8 rear now...what happened to this?

Do some more research next time...Torsens aren't known for drag racing bro.

I just bought an FC and am very interested in swapping in the 1jz as well. could anyone come up with a list that includes most/all of the items that will be needed for the swap? Including motor, possible trannys, rear diffs, motor mounts, tranny mounts, fuel lines, vacuum lines, etc..? it would be much appreciated :)
