Good engine to swap in my FC?

Hey, I wanted to ask you guys what would be a good engine to swap with my 13B? Anything like a KA24DET or an SR20DET? I'm a complete noob at swapping and help would be appreciated. What is a good engine to swap with?

fcdrifter13 05-24-06 01:18 AM

Any Vauxhal Twin cam motor.

SoontobeLS1'd 05-24-06 01:31 AM

The LS1 is a popular choice.

rarson 05-24-06 02:21 AM

4g63. A wideblock 4g63 will bolt up to a TII tranny with a Mazda B2600 bellhousing.

Apathy 05-24-06 02:29 AM

How about a 13B-RE... or if you want non-rotary, then I would go with a LS1. There is this 1st Gen in Broward county w/ a nasty LS1 swap w/ nitrous... I dont know everything done to it (its obviously built including suspension) but that's the quickest FB I've ever seen in person. I havent seen a LS1 FC in person, but I have seen vids of people who has done it. It seems pretty kewl. But I still choose my 13B-RE b/c I love rotary and I love having 2 nice sized turbos w/ no lag... lol.

2Lucky2tha7 05-24-06 02:57 AM

Briggs and Stratton 5hp motor with a blower and running on ethanol!!!
Just kidding :)
I suggest Cosmo 13B-RE

Jigsaw 05-24-06 04:26 AM

How would a SR20DET go in the FC? How hard would that be?

fcdrifter13 05-24-06 04:47 AM

Engine tranny ECU harness, coustom mounts, and a custom cross member, and driveshaft/

rarson 05-24-06 08:10 AM

How about a 10-hp Changfa diesel?

2Lucky2tha7 05-24-06 08:21 AM

^^
Hahahahahaha!!!!!! I just read the article and that metro looks hilarious with that stupid engine popping out of the hood!!!
Sorry guys, I'm sidetracking.

digitalsolo 05-24-06 03:31 PM

I don't understand, what's the point of doing a swap that will cost as much as an LS1, weigh as much as an LS1, and not make nearly as much power as an LS1? Just to be "unique" ?

2Lucky2tha7 05-24-06 03:57 PM

Because it's no longer a rotary!!!! That IS the point of the RX7!! RX7= rotary engine!!! If you want to put anything other than a rotary into your RX7, please go to a different forum!!! You can put a v8 into any car, but it sure as hell doesn't make it unique anymore!!! The rx7club should naturally be for the ROTARY engine, not another Goddamn piston engine. Hell, you can find a v8 engine in almost anything now!!! When you put a piston engine in an RX7, it's no longer an RX7, but rather a donor car for just another v8 swap. I'm sorry, but that just pisses me off!!!! The rotary only came in one particular vehicle, and that is the RX series. NOTHING else in the world has a rotary engine, so please stop defacing the RX7 by putting a V8 in it. Please, don't get me wrong, go for it, but it just pisses me off when those same people start posting on this forum to do a v8 swap!! Sorry guys, don't take it personally, but it's just a pet peeve of mine.

Now watch, people are gonna start flaming me.

P.S.: I KNOW the piston engine can be reliable, it's just the mere fact of putting a piston engine in an rx7.

Nihilanthic 05-24-06 04:02 PM

GTFO of this forum bitching about piston engine swaps.

Not going to flame you, just let you know that you might want to inform these guys that no car other than the Mazda RX series have ever had rotary engines. They will probably be quite shocked. Not to mention all the people who bought Mazda's own Rotary Pickup.

hahaha stay away from a KA if your worried about weight..... the KA is a a lot heavier then an ls1 ...... i think its almost 50 or more lbs then the ls1, so a KA-t would be even more weight from all the turb o stuff. I'd go sr20 in a rx-7 befor KA........ also going with an SR or KA will require alot of custom fab'ed mounts and all that other good stuff.

most domestic V8's can be just bolted in thanks to kits made by granny's or hensions(sp??).

IMO best bang for your buck would be ford efi 302..........

rarson 05-25-06 01:50 AM

Other than the issue of finding a wideblock engine and B2600 bellhousing and making engine mounts, I still think the 4g63 would be a pretty economical way to go. Of course things always end up costing more than twice what I plan, but 4g63s usually go for ~1400 or less. If you already have a TII or TII drivetrain in your car, then you can still use the stock drivetrain. Just get a Starion flywheel and bolt it all together.

Even the lower-compression first-gen engines make decent power and gobs of torque for a 4-cylinder.

I concur.

If you're going to do a swap, make one worth the time, money, and committment.

It probably really pisses you off that I'm working on a 10AE LS1 then, doesn't it?

I hate to think of what my life would be like if I cared what a random person I'll never meet does with their cars; less enjoyable undoutedly. I'd recommend you take a nap, then drink a beer, or vice versa. Might help you relax. ;)

2Lucky2tha7 05-26-06 12:49 AM

No, it doesn't piss me off.
By all means, go for it.
Whatever makes you happy.
I won't make any excuses, because I'll get flamed for it, and I don't feel like dealing with the comments.

rarson 05-26-06 12:55 AM

Guys, it's a good thing that people are so passionate about these cars.

Now let's just stop flaming each other because of our differing opinions. ;)

the rotary is my favorite engine too, but who cares? do whatever you want and don't do anything you don't want to. if you wanna put a diesel hybrid in the thing and get 200mpg, go for it.

2Lucky2tha7 05-26-06 03:18 AM

Yes, aside from my earlier comments, I honestly have to agree. I am very passionate about the rotary engine because at this point it is all that I know---engine, all of it's capability, and I have a tendency to defend it against the typical "just throw a V8 in it." This is all that I have to say about this. I respect the fact that if you want more torque or power, then by any means, go for it. To each his own.
That is all I have left to say.

GUITARJUNKIE28 05-26-06 03:42 AM

i'm gonna get a camaro and fd and swap their engines over just so i can piss EVERYONE off :p:

Nihilanthic 05-26-06 03:49 AM

You wouldn't piss off anyone with a 13B-REW in a Camaro, you'd just get laughed at when it couldnt get out of its own way any better than a stock 3800 in a Camaro could

GUITARJUNKIE28 05-26-06 03:56 AM

oow oow!! 3800. good idea for an fc :D
