FD3S With 4G64 6-Bolt Swap
This was built by a shop in Minneapolis and was at the All Mitsubishi Cookout this afternoon.
I don't know anything about it though I did get some pictures... Their goal is 1000WHP! http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...3/DSC01510.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...3/DSC01526.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...3/DSC01512.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...3/DSC01513.jpg http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...3/DSC01514.jpg |

The 4G64 is basically a stroked 4G63. It has been stroked from a 2.0L to a 2.4L. Us DSM'ers(in an attempt to get even more torque) basically take a 4G63 block and put in 2.4L pistons, rods, and crank thus changing the displacement to 2.4L, then we put on a 4G63 head. But some Galants came with a true 4G64 (2.4L) block but they are very rare and the 2.0L 4G63 block casting is the same but with 2.0L internals.Confused yet..lol. There is a lot of controversy in the DSM/EVO/Mitsu/4g63 world about 4G63 to 4G64 stroker motors. Some say they're not as reliable, don't last too long, doesn't make any more torque worth mentioning, cant rev as high (and Revs spools turbos). And others swear by them and think they're the greatest modification for 4G63's since a liquid to air intercooler. ME?? I love the 2.0L and I own one that'll make 600hp easy. Also, the fastest 4G63 in the world(Breant Rau's-6sec) is a 2.0L

why would you do this

Very cool swap indeed..... I like that the turbo is soo large it nearly touches the timing belt.
Does anyone know what it weighs? |
hmm, i wonder how hard itd be to mount one of these in a SA. i might have to rethink my SR20 swap......

I'm in the process of doing this swap now. I actually started my project around the same time as these guys at MA performance. They just kinda beat me to it because I'm also in the middle of renovating my house. But why, you ask? The 4g63 is the cheapest motor to make power with that I have seen. They are reliable as hell (contrary to popular belief) and comes stock with froged internals to take tons of boost. Its basically a 4cyl 2jzgte thats cheap as hell. The head design is amazing especially for the time they came out(1989) and hasn't even come close to being duplicated in 4 cylinders today. Oh and did I mention cheap? You can buy a motor in the junkyard for $100 out here by me, and a water pump costs $18 at the parts store just to give you an example of the "big money" you'll be spending for parts...lol. I bought JE pistons & rings, Pauter rods, Ferrea valves, ARP head and main studs and had my crank knife edged all for under $2,000...lol.With the Buschur adapter plate($300) you can mate it to any Chevy or ford tranny. And the FD is the best handling RWD car out there for the money. I dont see why people haven't been doing this swap all along. I personally think this or V8's are the swaps every rx7 owner should at least think about. Rotaries...even though I know you guys love 'em to death....they're a big money pit man.
I honestly didn't know the 4g63 was that cheap. More power to you |

Congratulations on a very neat swap...
i raced rotaries for Mazda for 6 years and love them. i build my own engines and run two TO4s w meth and am aiming for 600 rwhp. my setup has been running for 3 years and i am closing in on my targeted hp. built right rotaries are bulletproof. that said, if i were ever to do a diff engine it would be hands down a DSM 4G63. i i like turbos, i like revs, i like light compact things and it fills the bill. it has been said the 4G63 is to 4 cylinders as the chev smallblock is to V8s. and it is true. keep us up to date.. howard coleman |
