Fd w/ rb25

Hello all,

My name is Joe and I've been a long long timer creeper on this forum and finally bought a 1993 RX-7 in February. I was originally looking for a rotary car but after months of not being able to find one that checked all my boxes, I pulled the trigger on this RB25DET swapped one on my 35th birthday (mid-life crisis??) I originally saw the car on FB marketplace and while loved the black/black touring I wasn't sure about the quality of the swap and questioned the condition of the car. I started thinking more and more about the car and figured I should at least check it out since it was only about an hour and a half away. Long story short, the owner had receipts for EVERYTHING I thought the swap was done correctly, the compression test was perfect, low mileage motor, and the head was refreshed when swapped and it has working AC and power steering ... the owner just didn't have time for it anymore and it sat in his garage, anyways onto the pictures!

I currently live in a shoe box in manhattan and parking in stupid expensive so I immediately shipped the car to my old roommate in a suburb of Chicago (it went through a snowstorm before arriving)

I flew back and we worked on the car for a few days, added FEED side skirts, hyper-dipped the wheels, polished up the engine bay, and started on the interior update

I don't have any interior pictures right now but it's in pretty good shape. We added a sony 7-inch touchscreen, a digital rearview mirror, LEDs in the dash, alpha garage floor mats, Alcantara shift boot, shift knob etc. I have matte carbon fiber cluster, HVAC, center console replacements coming in a couple of weeks as well so I'll definitely get pictures soon.

Unfortunately, one thing that wasn't new with the swap was the turbo (rebuilt). I really haven't driven the car much, but the seals just went bad so currently waiting on a Kinugawa TF06-18KX and exhaust manifold will be rewrapped black.

It's currently running a Jim Wolf ECU but I'd like to switch to a Haltech elite (open to suggestions) and curious if anyone knows good Nissan tuners on the east coast... I am moving to Jersey City in May and hope to put a lot of miles on this summer.

Definitely a good base for what can be a really nice swapped fd. Looks like you have a very long way to go but running with ac/ps is a good start. Congratulations on the purchase. An rb26 fd is something I've always wanted to do but I ended up with a 1j instead lol

Thanks! a 1J or 2J actually makes a lot of sense since the turbo location won't mess with the steering column for LHD FDs. The previous owner actually had a 2JZ swapped FD at one point too but it was ~1,000hp and he built this to be much more streetable.

It's definitely a bit of a project but I'm good with that as I've missed owning a car so much. I will try to get some videos, interior shots, and pictures up on a lift soon.
