it'd be an awful pain in the ass.

The real question is: WHY?

wwilliam54 09-18-04 06:51 AM

there are better engines if your spending the money

sorry for being so brief last time. i was pressed for time.

i bought a CYM for $16K about 8 months ago. the car had 88K miles. he said that it had about 13K on the new engine. the car has 97K on it now, and the engine runs strong.

i know im gonna have to replace the engine in a while, but i dont want another 13b. i drive the car far too much...i cant help it :)

id rather swap it with somthing that would be more reliable. I know that people put LS1s in them, but i dont think that the engine matches the car, its hard to explain. after test driving an STi i thought that the EJ25 (sorry for putting ej20 in the title.) would be a worthy candidate. i want somthing that i can keep relatively stock, for reliabilitys sake, but still get around 300hp from. the ej25 was the only thing i could think of. ive read about one with a 2jzgte in it. what are some other popular engines that have been swapped in to 3rd gens?

im gonna go search somemore. thanks.

Actually, as long as the physical dimensions fit into the engine bay, anything is possible. However, you need access to the parts, and fabrication skills to do it.

I'll be in DFW this weekend with my LS1 powered FD. If you want to see how much the engine doesn't "match" go ahead and meet up with us. I bet after taking a ride you might change your mind. :)

im not sure if i could do that... i may have to work all day sunday.

how much did your LS1 swap cost- engine, install, and everything.

RX7_2nr 09-23-04 05:14 PM

dammit i love this car too much to get rid of it, maybe an LS1 would be the way to go...

did the extra weight throw off the handling of the car very much?

Actual swap probably ran me between $8K and $9K. I also spent about $5K on suspension upgrades, and another $1k+ on tools.

All 60 extra pounds of it are a bitch to control ;)

I can actually get my "race weight" down under that of a stock touring. In short, it doesn't affect it enough to notice a difference. Even driving Turbojeff's car and mine right back to back weren't all that much different.

Come out to the autocross at TMS on the 24th. I'll take you along for a ride, and you can likely catch a ride with Justin (Xchaos) too.

thanks.

My buddy was talking about doing a swap like that.
I think it would be really sweet...go for it.

Are those boxer engines cast iron?

If so, I'd bet your weight, with turbos and everything is going to be right near that of an LS1/T56, for less power.

Take a look at the LS1 swap, it's a lot easier for the sheer fact of it's been done before.

almost definately souldnt fit....Subaru uses the flat 4, which is really wide, i dont think you could get it in the engine bay of a 7.
