Cx-7 motor in a FC??
I know that those cx-7 things like just came out, but does anyone know what the motors are like in those things? They look like they are putting out some pretty good numbers i was just wondering if it would even fit in a FC or any 7 for that matter. I just thought of this last night, along with my possibly genious Renesis/13B "hybrid" (look for the post in the "general rotary tech" section)

It's the same engine as the Mazdaspeed 6. It's just tuned differently.

The Renesis would be much better suited IMHO.
W/ all the R&D you'd have to do on your own, a LS1 would be a million times easier. If you're gunna put some pistons in it...freakin make it worth it. |
total waste of money to put a minivan engine in.

Ok, well uh..
The cost to BUY one of those motors, to have mounts and bracing made to mount it in an FC, making an adapter of some sort to fit a manual to it, wiring it, etc...would PROBABLY greatly exceed the budget of putting in a 20B... Not very cost-effective. |
its alot of custom work, but im sure it would fit, which is what i beleive you were asking.

I was under the inpression that the mazdaspeed6 was still a v6....

2.3L turbo the 6s also had a 6 cylinder but it's not turboed
|
the mazda 6 has a 2.3 liter 4 cylinder or a 3 liter v6.
the mazdaspeed 6 is a 2.3 liter turbo, the mazdaspeed 6 shares nothing with the normal 6's its a totally different car. the cx7 has a mazdaspeed 6 engine with a smaller turbo, for better low end |
I'm mad at Mazda for the CX-7. I think they defiled the RX-7 by using a name so close to it. Bastards...

Mmm k this thread got threadjacked, but once i read it was auto only i really didnt give a fack.

2.3 liter turbo motor? :D
Its also direct injected, so with a really good ECM you could most definitely get very good driveability, power, torque, and fuel economy. But that means a lot of money spent on the electronics. Mounting a tranny to it and making engine mounts would be relatively easy for any fabricator to do. The downside is the motor is not very inexpensive and youd need a custom adaptor plate to mount it to a decent tranny. IMO youd be better off finding an old ford "lima" 2.3 turbo to play with. Super cheap, very strong, it just needs some grinder work on the head or a new aluminum head from Esslinger, and even with the stock head you can just throw insane psi at it to make power. Oh, and www.grannysspeedshop.com makes mounts for them into a FC already, and T-5s bolt right up :) |
I wouldnt be surprised if the 2.3 liter turbo is baised off the 2.3 liter ford engine, that has been around forever. I doubt its a mazda motor, just has mazda turbo ect. maybe.

How about putting a 20B into the CX-7? That would rock!! figure an xtra $20K to do the conversion? I always wanted an all-wheel drive rotary that could go off-road.

CX-7 motor in a FD would be decent. Im damn sure it is a Mazda based motor that Ford uses now in there 4 banger Ranger. I have a 2.3L '05 Mazda3 and love it. They now use this motor in the former Toyota Atlantic sereies tuned by Cosworth making 300HP. I think the guy who has a 6 pro street has a 2.3L making 1000+hp.
