Anyone with a Tech2 swap kit...
Did your LCAs fit the subframe very poorly?
Below is a photo of my driver-side front LCA bushing. The LCA was very difficult to fit into the Tech2 subframe and, as you can see, there is quite a gap between the busing and the subframe. The delrin bushings fit my stock subframe like a glove. I am wondering if there are differences in the LCAs between years? I figured I'd just get a washer in there to close the gap. Thoughts? https://img706.imageshack.us/img706/...8175117117.jpg |
mine were a pita to fit too. If I remember correctly I had to actually open one of the ears to get lca in. I dont remember there being that much gap though.

For future reference, when, roughly, did you order your kit? |
I ordered my kit around January 2010. They may have redesign the kit a bit, or their quality might fallen off.

i had the same problem w/ mine too i dont know what its but i ask carlos monterubio and he said they never had anyone say any thing about that obviously thats not true!!!

Does anyone know if you need a particular steering rack to clear this "kit?" I've got a 93 and everything about the rack does not fit at all. The shaft touches the mount bracket on the subframe and the bolt on the U-joint ABSOLUTELY does not clear the subframe.
I'm about to throw this thing in the fucking trash, get a samberg subframe, and build my own mounts. |
hmm mine was a pain in the a** to get to fit, tight fit. do you have pics of the steering rack? id like to see. i got their kit recently, i didnt have any issues with the steering rack but i needed to widen one hole on the power plant support they sent me.
|
My steering rack cleared the mounts on mine with no problem. The only thing was after driving the car for a while the motor mounts sag a bit and the oil pan started to rub on one of the hard lines of the power steering. I made two 1/8 spacer and slipped them under the mounts. Seems to fix the problem for now.
Did u get instructions for the wire harness CKxx? |
No, I actually bought the subframe and some other parts from another member. I'm towing the car to a local shop to get the harness done, sorry.
I'll get some pics of the rack later. I set the motor in there and I'm doing some other work right now. |
how are you liking that swap kit and everything. im trying to decide if i want to buy the swap kit or just build from scratch.

I'm about to head out of town for a bit, so I'll elaborate later, but I would say, "build from scratch" for sure.

I'm upset to hear that the tech2 kit is garbage, glad to find out before I bought one though. Any info on a samberg subframe? I searched but didn't come up with much.

I wouldn't say that the Tech 2 kit is garbage, everything fitted properly for me so far.

My kit was pretty good fit, the only problem was their wire harness. No instructions, had to phone them for 2 weeks to get them to send me some. Had to look up on Granny's speed shop site for more detailed instructions.

It a modified stock hood. Had it done by the bodyshop that painted my car. Its ok for now but i dont think it will last for the long run, since they used to much bondo and couldn't weld it since its aluminum. I will go with the tech2 hood if this one breaks.

I still haven't cut the upright to clear the steering rack. My car seems to be the only one with issues. I am thinking of selling the whole thing if anyone wants it. Tech2 subframe, motor mounts, mount brackets, and 6sp trans mount. Everything has about 30 miles on it. |
