88 Mazda Rx7 FC + 4.0 Jeep Motor = WTF??

Ok so it looks like I will be saving up money for the 2jz gte motor for my fc... car is for sell as of now until I make purchase for the motor if it hasn't sold before I get the motor I will keep it...

I need a diagram of the car showing measurements of under the hood and the transmission tunnel I want to make this car like a show car make sure everything is done right please please please somebody help me get a diagram for this car I haven't been able to find any good diagrams for this car at all...

I'm putting a 4.0 jeep motor in it for now till I get another motor for it and I wanna make sure everything is right where it needs to be

You'll most likely have plenty of room in the trans tunnel since a piston motors crank is on the bottom of the block instead of the center of the motor, however you will most likely have to use a sawsall on the stock trans mounts. As for measurements, I'm not much help, but since the amc 4.0 is a cam in block design, so I wont be terribly tall, but it will be terribly long and thus you will most likely run into issues where the hood slopes down. Also expect to do some custom oil pan trickyness to make it fit in general, maybe an oil pan from an amc I-6 car would help, like the gremlin. The jeep 4.0 is an awesome stout and torquey motor, however it's not really the final word in horsepower, for less money and head aches, and more power, and more aftermarket, and more potential, and more resaleability you may wanna consider the v8 route with a ready made swap kit. Also your 2jz fund will dry up extremely fast getting 4.0 up and running, imho it sounds like a lot of work and money for some thing that isn't what you truly want in the first place. I learned from my experiance that engine swaps have a way of 30 and 50 dollaring you to death, and it will be even worse if you plan on playing musical motors. I don't mean to shoot you down here, I just want to warn you about the comitiment involved in carrying out your plan.

If you have any questions I'd be happy to help

Well i have the motor in the car, I'll post some pics...

Problems I have is I gotta make the mounts for it which I did, my measurements were right but I didn't account for the rubber on the mounts giving so its just a little to low has to come back up a little... then I have to make a transmission mount and a drive shaft...

other than that i need to hook everything up I need to but I'm not going to screw up the wiring harness as when I go to do the next swap I'll be using the jeep motor and tranny to sell for money towards my next project

questions I have is what would be the best way to mount something on the frame... exactly where the little tits poke up on the frame... not sure what they are for since I haven't really looked.. what I have for mounts is I have the original jeep motor mounts and 4, 1 & 1/2" round steel bar that I lathed to size and drilled them out and a few 1/4" thick steel plate... I'll try to get some good pics of the mounts they are hard to describe

I absolutely can't explain why, but I think that 4.0 looks sooooooo cool in the engine bay of that 7! I'm not being sarcastic, it's just rather different from every thing else I've seen slinking around under the hoods of these cars. Speaking of which I hope the stock hood clears, that would add to the coolness of it. I never would've dreamed an amc I-6 would fit that well under the hood of an fc, best of luck I hope to see more progress.

That's a heavy motor to only make 200 odd horsepower, but I like the fact you're thinking different. Now how about the 4wd?

I do wonder if it'll get 13 mpg highway like my XJ.

I am just curious as to what ever happened to this build. Was it a success? Do you have videos of it running or in motion?

what happened! Gotta tell my jeep buddy...or do I?

I'm still interested to see how this ended up [probably aborted].

My vert needs an engine, and I happen to work at a junkyard with LOTS of Jeeps ... Hilarity could ensue.

I sure hope he aborted that mission!.. Peeps be crazy now days!...lol
