7MGTE swap?
 

could soembody tell me what would need to be done to do this supra swap into 87 FC?

custom oil pan, custom tranny mount, custom diff mount, custom motor mounts, custom wiring, either buy a new hood or make a new subframe, if you lower subframe you will need bumpsteer correction kit, custom driveshaft, and much more random things that you will find that don't work together along the way. If you are not planning to do it yourself, lots of money.

dear God why... you realize that Mark III owners try to swap that motor out for a 1JZ? myself and every other Mark III owner I've known has spun a bearing on a 7M

well to be honist, i love the rotary. but not very reliable for racing. right now at my work, there is a turbo II complete engine (wireing tranny ecu), a bmw m3 complete engine wireing tranny, ecu, and there is the supra motor a guy was gonna build up to put in his supra. but hes not doing it anymore said i could have it if i want.
bmw m3, engine guy said he would do all the work for me, ( co worker ) but the owner of the shop told us no side work if i do it he wants me to pay for the swap fuck that i cant aford it.
owner told me i should just do a v8 swap. get 450 hp and 400tq and just rip that engine.
problem with the v8 is that they are a very expensive engine themself because if i have to find a ecu, tranny, seperitly.

i pretty much want a reliable 300WHP to do some drifting that wont rape me with money. so, since supra engine is free thought id look into it.

a 7m is NOT a good candidate for an engine swap. I'm going 1J, I would
highly recommend you do to. 2jzswap.com just finished a pull apart kit
to do a 1JZ-GTE engine in an FC chassis. Prices are around 2k with or
without wiring harness conversion (which the will also do for you btw).

You pretty much have all the hard parts done for you. IF you have never
attempted a piston swap in an RX7 I would say stick with a rotary. I am
on my 9th car and 17'ish rotary engine and am just now finally deciding to
go piston. Rotaries are reliable if you know wtf you're doing. All said
and done, for a 1JZ swap you are looking at 4500$ at the light end. For that
you could invest in a great water injection system on your car and have it
near bullet proof.

FYI: There is no such thing as a reliable track car, I don't care who you
are or what you say.

Yeah, you could spend that money on water injection and STILL have shitty gas mileage.

Although the 1J and 2J are way better, if your not going for huge hp and make sure you use a good headgasket the 7M would be way cheaper. My freind has built a few supras with 7Ms that made around 400 hp using all junkyard parts and even a stock turbo. And since supra owners are always swapping in 1 and 2Js they sell for really cheap.

Cheap pretty much sums up everything about the 7M.

7m is also rear sump i believe so i dont think you'd need a custom pan. Clearance may be tight to the point you need to break out a hammer for some dimples but it should work fine.

Congrats on getting a supra. TIMELESS cars and turn heads everywhere they go.

y would you sell a rx7 to get a heavy ass supra?? makes no sense to me but its your choice, i would just like to kno wat made u make ur mind up considering you said you wanted a track car...supras are tanks

7mgte = like 3 head bolts total.. LOL j/k

But really they are known for blowing headgaskets more than rotaries spit out apex seals.


You would be way better of with a 1JZ/2jz

I autoX'd a mk3 supra (87 hardtop stripped out interior/back seats/sound deadening/tookheavy ass driver seat and passenger seat replaced with racing seats) with a built 7m for more than a year and i did really good. i was always right behind miata/s2k guys in parking lots when considering they weigh like 400 pounds less than me but at the long straight aways, i know that i'd blow there doors away.

i miss my mk3 supra (i had 7of em)... but i'm loving my FC vert with T2 swap alot.

Ive fully built mine, and i havent had any problems.
damn thing is a torque monster.
