2jz Fd3s?

Anybody done the swap I'm just wondering how much you spent I see the swap kit but I'm just wondeing how much you have spent I have plenty of $$ to use just wondering about how much I can use on upgrades I don't wanna hear your gonna ruin the 50/50 this is dumb blah blah blah all posts like that will be reported

7passu 09-30-13 07:25 PM

well if you can do it all yourself like i have then you can save a ton. I made my own mounts to the stock sub frame, made a cross member for the trans, made the shifter extension etc...its a lot of work either way it goes though. Most start the swap and never finish. I think im one of the few that have 1 up and running. Just research and dig and see what you really think about it. Check out SF im over there as well. Can find more swaps underway to see how much work it really is.

Ill help with any questions if you need

7passu 09-30-13 07:30 PM

and the whole 50/50 crap can very easily be fixed by corner balancing the car...i did mine and it drives the same to me

3+ years and ~$15,000+ and my 2JZ swap still isn't done.

Try reading up on some of the build threads.

BillyMitheRxGuy 10-01-13 12:18 PM

I'm thinking the 1jz is smarter

YoshiFD3S 10-01-13 01:57 PM

Either swap is complicated, and involves essentially the same amount of custom work.

The only difference would be the cost of parts...

But if you are serious, I would do:

Aristo 2JZ
1JZ Bellhousing
R154 Transmission

And then your choice on wiring harness, tuning, etc.

Cleaned this thread up. Let's keep it on point, please.

protunedperformance 10-02-13 11:49 PM

I have done all the work myself and yes it is a bit expensive. I would guess under 10k. If you did it all and just wanted to swap a stock 2jz into a stock rx7. I have put over 30k into my swap over about 5 years and getting close to finished.

BillyMitheRxGuy 10-03-13 08:04 PM

So you haven't even started yours up?

That's correct, have never started it.

charlie 7 10-15-13 12:04 AM

In my case it will be close to $8000 in parts including the motor and swap kit .theres a price u have to pay when u dnt have the correct tools to get it done and you want to have something different and unique... im still missing lots of stuff like
Wiring harness
FMIC/piping
And cluster makeover etc...

yeep 10-16-13 10:11 PM

I have about 8k on my 1jz swap. Swap kit from tech2, worst technical support ever by the way. It runs good and pulls nice for a stock engine but now I have a weird vibration problem after a differential swap and shortening of the driveshaft :dunno:. Asked tech2 for a new driveshaft and they quoted me $575 for a new one
The motor mounts they use sag like crazy. Hockey pucks will do :-).
Good luck on the build.

YoshiFD3S 10-17-13 09:46 AM

Your vibration could easily be caused by ANY number of your mounts being off by even as little as a 1/4". It could be motor mounts, subframe, tranny mounts, anything...if they're off to one side, up, down, slanted, whatever...you are going to have some kind of vibration, pulling to one side...something.

Yeah I am trying to figure out what's going on. There were no vibrations before even though the motor mounts were already sagging. The diff was making to much noise, had to get a new one but the one I had was an automatic, different flanges. When I got a 5speed diff the driveshaft was a tad long. Had it cut and balanced two times, even had the diff rebuilt, but it still vibrates after 35mph or so. I am just thinking of getting a new drive shaft and mounts, and go from there.

protunedperformance 10-18-13 04:10 PM

Hey yeep have you checked the allignment of the diff in relation to the engine and trans. The are certain angles and degrees that need to be in place when completing engine and rear diff swaos in cars. Here's a great article that covers how a setup needs to be, I have to do this to mine. I could be way off but just thought I would share the info just in case.
Drive Shaft Harmonics

I will have to check that site out, but there isn't any adjustable points on the swap kit that I can do other than changing parts .

My thought was a couple of washers here and there would change just a few degrees and might solve your problem.

YoshiFD3S 10-21-13 09:26 AM

You basically just need to check your setup from top to bottom.

1.) Motor is straight, LEVEL, equally spaced (centered), and aligned correctly.
2.) Transmission is straight, aligned correctly.
3.) Driveshaft...

Next,

Motor mounts...tranny mounts...bushings...etc.

phunny 12-11-13 06:09 PM

I see that there is a kit that is for sale but have yet to find a harness. How are you all solving this?

Tweaked Performance is making mine! It's going to plug directly into the ProEFI and everywhere else I need it to go. Even setting up traction control and rolling anti-lag. :icon_tup:
